IGDA Foundation
Computer Games
A 501 c3 charity focused on welcoming every person who wants to play and make games.
About us
The IGDA Foundation focuses on improving the lives of game developers by making game development a more diverse and inclusive community. We want every person on the planet to love playing games, and we think the best way to make that happen is to have a game development community that is inclusive of, and welcoming to, every person who wants to make games. We believe that diversity of all kinds in game development leads to better and more successful products and companies, and happier and more successful game developers. Participants in our programs are selected both for their excellence as individuals and for the promotion of a more diverse and inclusive community. We value diversity of all kinds, including gender, race, socio-economic background, sexual orientation, country of residence, age, and life experiences. We’ve designed our programs to be as welcoming to participants as possible, with attention to features like a travel stipend to make the program experiences accessible regardless of economic status. We encourage you to join us, our volunteers, our participants, our partners, and our sponsors in building a more inclusive game development community.

We love it when amazing devs like Jane Whittaker join us to talk games...and sandwiches! Our grantees loved learning from you!
I was just privileged to spend my afternoon at a gathering of developers arranged by Karen Morrison and the IGDA Foundation. I met with so many developers from around the world in a real blur of cultures and backgrounds. Everyone was so passionate about making games, but more than that, the group were united in being kind, generous and welcoming to each other. A safe space where we could discuss openly and freely with each other. I came out of the event with more friends than when I started the day, which is very special indeed. I also learnt a great deal from the attendees, sharing their passion for #videogames and their hopes for the future. More than 40 years in games and I never stop learning! I am very grateful to have been asked to participate in the group today. I am going to spend my evening thinking of bizarre sandwiches (yes, you had to be there as the topic turned to weird and wonderful sandwiches - hey we are #gamedevs it is in our DNA!) Thank you to everyone involved today. An amazing day I will not forget.

It's terrible that comments like these are still so prevalent in the games industry. We need to do better!
The games industry and gamer culture need to do better in how we treat women. As a game dev content creator, most of my hate comments are about my gender — not the quality of my videos. I'm constantly asked to prove if I'm a "real" game dev. For the record, GMTK makes fantastic videos, so this isn't hate to him at all. This video is from a while ago, and he's since announced his game, which looks great. #womeningaming #gamedev #indiedev
