This field visit to El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juárez, Mexico was critical to understanding the experiences of the growing number of asylum seekers in our services. In speaking with asylum seekers, civil society members, and government officials alongside U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI), we have learned about the challenges our clients face to reach the border and the confusion they experience while navigating legal pathways to enter the U.S. This joint project between the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) titled “Las Mariposas de la Frontera” aims to uplift the voices of asylum seekers at the U.S.-Mexico border and advocate for their rights.
