About us
The Illinois Association of Free & Charitable Clinics (IAFCC) was formed to help strengthen and grow Illinois’ free and charitable clinics – without whom over 40,000 patients would otherwise have no access to quality healthcare. The IAFCC helps free and charitable clinics move effectively into the future; connects patients with clinics; and helps many stakeholder organizations who wish to work with or help clinics. IAFCC is also a member of The National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NAFC). Mission IAFCC improves access to quality healthcare for low-income individuals who are uninsured or underinsured by: Strengthening free and charitable clinics Fostering partnerships Educating the public about free and charitable clinics and Advocating for health policy Vision IAFCC works toward a culturally and linguistically appropriate healthcare environment that provides free or affordable, high-quality health services that promote the elimination of health disparities among uninsured and underserved populations. IAFCC aims to: Enhance the sustainability of new and existing free and charitable clinics; Foster growth in free and charitable clinic access points, service lines and patients, especially in areas of high unmet need; Improve the awareness and understanding of free and charitable clinics among external stakeholders and partners, such as elected officials, public health administrators, hospitals, physician practices, federally qualified health centers and the public; and, Define, articulate and manifest the place free and charitable clinics hold in the era of health reform. Values Mission Driven Ethics in Advocacy Strength in Numbers Integrity of Information Commitment to Quality Collaboration and Accountability Diversity of Clinic Models and Patient Populations Focus on effective health policy and healthcare delivery systems

Thank you to our partners at the Center for Community Health Equity The Center for Community Health Equity is an admirable collaboration between DePaul & Rush Universities to promote and advance addressing health inequities in health care systems. We look forward to connecting with those that we met at the conference and continuing in partnership in this important work as well as learning from their expertise. Thank you to the leaders at Illinois Free and Charitable Clinics that joined us for the important keynote discussion on how IAFCC clinics are in the field and addressing health disparities day in and day out. Another key part of the conference and the discussion was establishing trust in communities and with individuals that walk through your clinic doors. We are proud that IAFCC clinic leaders and staff are among those that make this a priority and a pillar of care daily. IAFCC Executive Director, Melissa Maguire facilitated the discussion between clinic leaders: Kamari Thompson, Director of Programs at Mobile Care Chicago Steph Willding, MPA, CEO of CommunityHealth and IAFCC Board Director & Fatema Rehman Mirza, Executive Director of WorryFree Community

Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results. - Andrew Carnegie It is already the last week of August which means it is Illinois Free and Charitable Clinics Month's Partnership Highlight Week! One of the values of IAFCC is "Community" defined by the desire to foster collaboration and action that is both informed and led by clinics and the unique communities they serve. We are so thankful to our community and national partners that allow us to broaden the impact of Free and Charitable Clinics and are excited to highlight some of these partners this week! #IFCCM24 #ILFreeClinicsMonth2024

I am currently engaged with the Illinois Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (IAFCC), to work with its C3 Project and to provide consulting services to select member free and charitable clinics. Currently, I am privileged to be working with 𝗔𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗿𝗮 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲, assisting its volunteer leaders as they seek to build out the Clinic's financial infrastructure. With more than 23,000 residents of Aurora without health insurance, the Clinic's work is a tremendous asset for the community, and we want to increase its capacity. Yesterday, in celebration of Free & Charitable Clinics Month, Aurora Christian Healthcare hosted an open house. It was an honor to be invited, so see the operations of the clinic and to spend time getting to better know its dedicated volunteers. Currently, the Clinic provides much needed dental and chiropractic care to the area. While at the Clinic, it was wonderful to spend time with Melissa Maguire, Executive Director of IAFCC. We worked together for many years at The Night Ministry; I am so proud to see how she has become a tireless advocate on behalf of IAFCC's members and those whom they serve. The leadership she provides the Association has been influential in it receiving valuable dollars from the State of Illinois to support free and charitable clinics. A thousand thanks to IAFCC and its members clinics, such as Aurora Christian Healthcare. #freeandcharitableclinics #nonprofitcapacitybuilding #nonprofitleadership

As we wrap up Patients Week, we want to take a moment to highlight the diverse range of languages our clinics offer to better serve their patients. We are incredibly grateful to have clinics with the ability to communicate effectively and compassionately in various languages, ensuring that every patient is understood and cared for. This multilingual approach is a vital part of the comprehensive care our clinics provide, allowing us to connect with patients from all backgrounds and meet their needs with the highest level of respect and understanding. The "other" category includes interpretation services in 10 additional languages provided by our clinics. #IFCCM2024 #ILFreeClinicsMonth2024

Today, we’re sharing a patient testimony from Chicago Women’s Health Center! They’ve seen significant growth in CWHC’s mental health services and trans health services. This expansion will benefit not only current clients but also women and trans individuals who access these services for years to come. We are incredibly grateful for everyone at CWHC and for all their hard work and continued support! #IFCCM2024 #ILFreeClinicsMonth2024
