Supporting Access to Justice and Lawyers in Need

About us

Over fifty years ago, a handful of visionary leaders founded the Illinois Bar Foundation. Their initial commitment was to provide aid to deserving members of the Illinois Bar who, because of age or infirmity, could no longer provide for their own care or support. Since then, the Foundation has expanded its scope to ensure meaningful access to the justice system, especially for those with limited means, and to assist lawyers who can no longer support themselves due to incapacity. With the Vision to be the statewide leader in advancing equal justice, the Foundation has established the following organizational objectives: -- Enhance the availability of legal aid to those of limited means. -- Encourage pro-bono legal work. -- Educate Illinois residents regarding their rights and responsibilities under the law. -- Extend assistance to colleagues in need of support.

This year's WMHD theme is prioritizing mental health in the workplace, a cause that we wholeheartedly support through our Warren Lupel Lawyers Care Fund. We are so proud of our Lawyers Care Fund recipients who have sought help from the IBF and our friends at Illinois Lawyers' Assistance Program to get the mental health resources and financial support they need to prioritize their own mental wellbeing. #MentalHealthMatters More info: https://lnkd.in/eSD298DZ

Today, while I was attending the Illinois State Bar Association Solo and Small Firm Conference, I made a new friend! Meet my friend Sterling who is a comfort dog and works for Paw Printing Ministries in central Illinois. Paw Printing Ministries offers comfort dogs for victims of abuse in certain legal cases and Sterling actually goes to court to offer comfort to those in need. I know from my 28 years of practicing law throughout the State of Illinois, going to court for many people is stressful for some and even traumatic for others. Many people may not realize it, but we need more Sterlings! #ISBA #solofirms
