Fantastic news out of Choose Chicago! 🏎️🏁
Today, in partnership with the Chicago Sports Commission, we are pleased to announce that the 2024 NASCAR Chicago Street Race Weekend generated $128 million in economic impact (17% more than last year) and $43.6 million in media impact (85% higher than last year). Some other notable top-line numbers from this year’s race: • 53,063 unique attendees took part in this year’s festivities, up from 47,405 last year, thanks in part to the introduction of single-day tickets. • Over 11% of attendees said it was their first time in Chicago – more than twice as many as last year. • The event generated 38,095 hotel room nights, up 29% from 2023. • 80% of 2024 non-local attendees would recommend Chicago as a travel destination. Thank you to the Sports Industry Research Center at Temple University's School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management for leading the creation of these rigorous reports. Thanks to all our partners whose hard work contributed to the dramatic growth of this event in its second year. Thank you to our partners at Brand USA for bringing 60+ travel trade professionals from Ireland and the United Kingdom to Chicago for a three-day MegaFAM finale event. MegaFAMs, or familiarization tours, provide out-of-market travel planners and agents with an immersive experience of Chicago, allowing them to explore the city's highlights firsthand so they can sell it more effectively as a premier global destination to future international visitors. In addition to celebrating our Best Big City win aboard Chicago's First Lady Cruises with the Illinois Office of Tourism, the group stopped at some of our world-class museums, local favorite restaurants, Chicago's incredible waterfronts, and even a mega concert! We look forward to working with these fantastic industry colleagues to continue driving future visitation to Chicago for years to come.

We had a great group of travel professionals from the UK along The First Hundred Miles of Route 66 last week! The tour included stops at the Joliet Area Historical Museum and Old Joliet Prison for a tour led by Executive Director and HCD board member Greg Peerbolte, dinner at CUT 158 Chophouse, an overnight at Harrah's Joliet Casino & Hotel, breakfast at the Old Route 66 Family Restaurant in Dwight, a tour of the Ambler-Becker Texaco Station, and a final stop in Pontiac at the Route 66 Association Hall of Fame and Museum. Thanks to the Illinois Office of Tourism and Brand USA for coordinating this MegaFAM and to all the participants who joined us in Joliet, Dwight, and Pontiac!
