Iron deficiency is common but often overlooked. It’s frequently found with anemia when iron levels are very low. So, is taking extra iron a good idea? Check out my latest post for Those Nerdy Girls. Though I love straightforward answers when possible, the answer to this one “very much depends.” https://lnkd.in/gNCA9X5y
Should I take an iron supplement?

While listening to this podcast episode about buprenorphine (interesting, and I’d highly recommend), Hanna Rosin’s opening question stood out to me: “what happens when you combine powerful medications with powerful stories about those medications?” I instantly thought about our film, Attention Must Be Paid: Women Lost in the Opioid Epidemic (which begins airing on PBS in a few days – starting October 5th!) Opioids are powerful. And their effects on women have been horrifically undocumented. But the stories we’re sharing harbor a power you’ve never seen before. Watch Rosa, Kay, Rebecca, Terrie and Linda. These women have been through the unfathomable and still fought through, trying to be the best versions of themselves. Learning to understand their disease is our responsibility. https://lnkd.in/ebhqT_M7

Just before the COVID-19 pandemic struck, the only major health resource in Chicago's Gage Park-West Elsdon neighborhood closed, leaving tens of thousands of residents without nearby healthcare. UI Health saw the need for help, and they responded by building the 55th & Pulaski Health Collaborative. And in less than three years, they've already served over 30,000 patients with an all-under-one-roof approach. 👩🏻⚕️👩🏾⚕️

DEA Question of the Week When should a DEA Form 106 be submitted to report a controlled substance theft or significant loss? A. Within one business day of discovery. B. Fifteen calendar days. C. Within forty-five calendar days of discovery. D. There is no time limit. The correct answer is “C.” See the link containing 21 CFR 1301.74 (c) and 1301.76 (b) below. The requirement pertains to both non-practitioner and practitioner DEA registrants. https://lnkd.in/g56hqWeV) While a bit of a trick question and a nuanced response, reporting a controlled substance theft or significant loss is a two-step process. DEA’s regulations require initial written notification of any theft or significant loss to the local DEA office within one business day of discovery. This preliminary notice usually takes place by email and is independent of the DEA 106 submission. The "within 45-days" reporting requirement for the DEA 106 originates in a Final Rule effective on July 24, 2023 that required electronic submission of the form (consistent with the DEA 107 for List I chemicals) and added the time limit. Previously, there was no time constraint for submission of the DEA 106 with the language “shall also complete . . . and submit . . . DEA Form 106 regarding the loss or theft” prior to the change. The DEA Diversion Control Division offers a secure online portal through its website for use by DEA registrants to submit DEA 106 and 107 reports. Related to this issue, DEA initially proposed a 15-day reporting limit but was persuaded to extend it to 45-days in response to comments received. DEA also declined to provide additional criteria to aid in a determination of when a loss may be considered “significant.”
