Join us for the October 10 webinar, "BSR/IES RP-37-24: Airport Outdoor Environment Lighting and its Challenges". Register today at ies.org/webinars. This webinar will help explain outdoor lighting at airports as it relates to the airspace, airport context and BSR/IES RP-37 Recommended Practice: Lighting Airport Outdoor Environments. Lighting recommendations will be discussed from the perspective of stakeholders at airports including aircraft pilots. Participants will better understand the environment where the lighting is positioned, how lighting assists tower control and ground services, proper positioning of lights, glare control, and field verification. Vertiport/heliport lighting for new modes of transport will also be addressed. This webinar sponsored by Landscape Forms.

📢 𝗖𝗜𝗘 𝗨𝗦𝗡𝗖 𝗪𝗲𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿: "𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗹𝘀𝗲" Mark your calendars for the upcoming CIE US National Committee webinar, held in collaboration with the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) on 𝟮𝟱 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 at 𝟭𝟬𝗔𝗠 - 𝟭𝟭𝗔𝗠 (𝗘𝗦𝗧) | 𝟰𝗣𝗠 - 𝟱𝗣𝗠 (𝗖𝗘𝗧). Prof. Craig Bernecker, President of the US National Committee of the CIE, will give an introduction to the CIE and the US National Committee. 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿 𝟭: 𝗗𝗿. Alan Lewis, Physiological optics consultant, retired as President of the New England College of Optometry 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿 𝟮: 𝗗𝗿. Jennifer Veitch, CIE President 🔗 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿: https://lnkd.in/dcyCgB2t 💡 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁: Everyone in the lighting world knows (or should know) that the basis of photometry is the spectral luminous efficiency function V(λ). However, did you know that it is based on research conducted in the USA under the auspices of the US National Committee of the CIE? 2024 marks the centenary of V(λ) being adopted internationally by the CIE, marking the beginnings of the physical measurement of optical radiation. The 1924 definition of V(λ) is based on psychophysical experiments measuring brightness perception. It has long been recognized that this definition underestimates visual sensitivity at short wavelengths and is only appropriate for small (2°) visual fields. Recent research has led to the proposal of a new standard based on the physiological properties of the visual system. However, is it the right decision to change the foundation of photometry? This webinar will explore the pros and cons. V(λ) best describes light for vision; however, in recent years we have gained knowledge about new photoreceptors, the intrinsically photoreceptive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs), and have learned to measure light for its effects on these and the classically known rods and cones. This presentation will celebrate the history of V(λ) and demonstrate how we use it together with the CIE system of metrology for measuring ipRGC-influenced light effects. It will also highlight how these measurements are being incorporated into lighting recommendations, including ANSI/IES RP-46-23: Recommended Practice for Supporting the Physiological and Behavioral Effects of Lighting in Interior Daytime Environments. 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dZMK8EbG
