The Year of the Snake is off to a phenomenal start, as IMAX notches our best-ever result for the Chinese New Year holiday, totaling $53 million to date – a nearly 60% increase over our previous best! The slate was led by “Ne Zha 2”, which scored the biggest opening weekend in IMAX history for an animated film. In total, IMAX also delivered its highest attendance ever for the Chinese New Year, with 5.5 million admissions nationwide. IMAX’s record-breaking slate of Chinese New Year films will continue to play throughout the IMAX China network for another month. IMAX is off to a running start during this year’s Lunar New Year holiday in China, where we set a new IMAX first day record with $12 million in total grosses across a slate of five exciting Chinese films! We also delivered our highest day one attendance in history, with 1.2 million admissions nationwide – good for 5% of the overall holiday box office to date on 1% of total screens. The biggest annual moviegoing window in China, the Lunar New Year Holiday continues through February 5th in China, and our holiday film slate will continue to play in the IMAX China network for another month after the holiday. Wishing all who celebrate the holiday a joyful and prosperous Year of the Snake!
