About us
The International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit educational organization. Our mission is to create, enhance and protect great places to ride bikes. Since 1988, IMBA has been bringing out the best in mountain biking by encouraging low-impact riding, volunteer trail work participation, cooperation among different trail user groups, grassroots advocacy and innovative trail management solutions. IMBA's staff, chapters, clubs and members work to benefit the entire mountain bike community. We create a powerful voice for trails, public lands and management policies that welcome bikes. We advocate for mountain bike access and acceptance nationwide. We build sustainable trails and bike facilities to make mountain biking more accessible. We teach environmentally responsible trail building and trail etiquette practices. We inspire more people to experience the outdoors on bicycles. We educate bike groups on how to organize and make mountain biking better at the local level. More progress is being made on new bike park-style, all wheel trails in Adams Park! The IMBA Trail Solutions team on the ground in Omaha, Nebraska, doubled in size this week as they began putting the seal on these all-weather style trails amongst the rolling hills that make up this beloved North Omaha park. While our IMBA Trail Solutions team is laying down lines, Trails Have Our Respect staff have been installing Eco-Counters in key areas to track usage of this investment. Specifically designed with this community in mind, these low-maintenance trails designed in open spaces are perfect for kids, families, and folks new to trails. While one team chip seals the intermediate and beginner mountain bike-optimized lines, others are rough-cutting all-weather connectors to what will be a bicycle playground, modular pump track, and a few natural surface trails in the next few weeks. Send the builders sunny weather with highs above 50° and good vibes as they finish these processes!

We can keep protecting great riding together. During this month’s membership drive, the prizes that our bike, travel, and outdoor industry partners have generously contributed make this member drive exciting. But the real prize is for each and every one of us: more riders have opportunities to break their routines and create deeper connections. Trails change lives and communities. Keep up the momentum in your community by joining Local: imba.com/join

“The berms and rollers flow seamlessly together, providing a delightful kinesthetic swoop and flow as you drop precipitously down those 1,000 vertical feet back to the trailhead.” Singletracks.com’ Managing Editor, Greg Heil, made the humbling one-hour trek up Highway 550 from Durango, CO, to Silverton last week to ride, interview, and scope out some of the fresh work by IMBA Trail Solutions. Baker’s Park is a decade-in-the-making project made possible by the IMBA Local Organization, Silverton Singletrack Society - serious dedication went into seeing this project to this form. Unfortunately, this weekend’s grand opening for the first 7 miles has been called off due to a snowstorm approaching the area, but these new trails are open as conditions permit. Read more about Greg’s time in Baker’s Park and meet some of the local advocates who pushed this project over the finish line: https://lnkd.in/gdy8VHt3 📸 Greg Heil

IMBA Trail Solutions x IMBA Local Orgs = a powerful combo. The build team in Cedar City is nearing the end of their time constructing the Breaks Trail; a 3.7 mile, mountain bike-optimized/shared-use, intermediate line. Two Saturdays ago, the team collaborated with Iron Trailcraft on slashing, rock sourcing and tread armoring for a solid 5 hours of enthusiastic trail work! Special thanks to operators Ben and Colin for leading these volunteers through the work day and thanks to those from the Cedar community for coming out to make the Breaks Trail a success.

We want to make sure the trail goes on forever, and so we work together to create singletrack that rips. There are many different roles in boosting great riding, from the folks who do grassroots work to those involved with national level policy. Pros and volunteers work together to build and maintain the places we ride. Many take on more than one of those roles. Notably, your IMBA Local Member Organization plays a key role to the success of trail systems in your area. It takes a village, and we can use your support – join or renew with your local org today: imba.com/join

How do you get your community or region on the same page for trails? Shared experience is certainly a great place to start. Spearfish Trails Coalition and Black Hills Bike Hub hosted a four-day IMBA Trail Care School in early September 2024. In-classroom learning accompanied dirt work at Lookout Mountain was possible thanks to the collaborative work of these two IMBA Local Member Orgs as well as city staff from Spearfish, Rapid City, and Pierre. We’re excited to see how the trails continue to evolve in this western corner of South Dakota.

Bakers Park in Silverton, Colorado, will celebrate a soft opening next Saturday, October 19th! Volunteers from Silverton Singletrack Society, the Bureau of Land Management, and crew members from IMBA Trail Solutions were on site for a volunteer day last Saturday to dot “i’s” and cross “t’s” on this project. Builders have added an additional ~2.4 miles to the existing 4.5 miles built last year. These 7 fresh miles of bike optimized beginner/intermediate trails will add much needed progression to the area and boast fantastic views of Silverton and the San Juans. If you’re in the area, be sure to join them for their opening!
