We are thrilled to announce the close of our $6M Series A financing led by HealthX Ventures, with participation from Incite.org Ventures, AllerFund, Mendota Venture Capital, Great Oaks Venture Capital, and individuals like e-comm pioneer, Pinterest executive, and Daydream founder Julie Bornstein, and serial founder and investor Diede van Lamoen. These funds will enable us to carry out a full consumer launch for Allergy Amulet, and further explore partnerships for our commercial brand, Amulet Scientific. This was no small feat—approximately 2% of venture funding goes to female founders, and we are experiencing one of the most challenging fundraising climates in over a decade. We are one giant leap closer to bringing sensors that can rapidly detect allergens, toxins, and contaminants in foods to consumers and businesses! Check out this article to get the full scoop.

Congratulations Quilt team on this major milestone! New industry leading AHRI certifications show that Quilt’s home climate system has an impressive SEER2 of 25 and HSPF2 of 12, setting a new efficiency standard in just 2 years. These new metrics mean Quilt qualifies for every rebate and incentive available, making heat pumps more efficient and accessible for homeowners across the country.

🔔 We just broke the record for the most efficient 2-zone heat pump! 🔔 AHRI rated the Quilt system at a SEER2 of 25 and an HSPF2 of 12. And we’re certified by ENERGY STAR, too. For context, the most advanced heat pump systems achieve SEER2 ratings between 17 to 24 and HSPF2 ratings between 8 and 11. Quilt's are higher. Congratulations to the Quilt team for building the most efficient 2-zone heat pump on the market in just 2 years! What do these new efficiency metrics mean? 🔥 Major savings: Quilt qualifies for every rebate and incentive available. We offer point-of-sale rebates so homeowners pay less at checkout, making energy-efficient heat pumps more accessible. ❄️ Reduced emissions: Heat pumps have the potential to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 500 million tonnes in 2030, according to estimates from the IEA. These estimates are based on market-average heat pumps, with efficiency ratings, often nearly half that of Quilt’s new efficiency metrics. Quilt's 2-zone heat pump, with a SEER2 of 25, represents the potential to reduce carbon emissions even more massively. These ratings only scratch the surface of Quilt’s holistic efficiency. With intelligent room-by-room control, Quilt adjusts to the needs of each room and automatically switches to Eco Mode when spaces are unoccupied. This drives real-world efficiency far higher than these already exceptional baseline metrics. Last week, a group of our FIELD fellows joined over 50 students from across the country at the Gen Z Food & Hunger Summit for an advocacy crash course, followed by an opportunity to take action. Young people taking the issues they care about into their own hands is at the core of Farmlink’s DNA, and we were incredibly proud to join the Congressional Hunger Center and Food Systems Collaborative at this year’s Gen Z Food & Hunger Summit. The FIELD fellows had the opportunity to learn from policy experts (including our own Head of Policy & Advocacy, Sophia Adelle) about the intricacies of advocating for federal legislation. They then put what they’d learned into practice by meeting with Congressional offices representing their districts, whether it was where they live, go to school, or are immersed this summer. Each student advocated for the Food Date Labeling Act (FDLA) or the Opportunity to Address College Hunger Act (OACHA), which are critical pieces of legislation that will help reduce food waste and fight hunger nationwide. We were so excited to be a partner in this movement of young people fighting for food security in their communities and across the country, building momentum behind key legislation that centers innovative, common-sense solutions. Keep an eye out for our newsletter written by FIELD fellow and summit participant Divya Saikumar for her insights from the summit (and subscribe here if you haven’t already)! https://lnkd.in/ditKnt3B Shout out to the other Gen Z Food & Hunger Summit partners, Swipe Out Hunger, Food Recovery Network, The Bonner Foundation, Student Basic Needs Coalition, and Bread for the World for an incredible event!

In a world where the price of groceries is skyrocketing and the climate crisis intensifies, the voices of those who are most integral to our food system are often the most overlooked. The recent Grist article sheds light on a critical issue: the hunger crisis among farmworkers. The root causes of farmworker hunger are multifaceted and deeply intertwined with larger systemic issues: - Economic Disparities: Farmworkers often earn wages that are far below the poverty line. The wealth inequality is furthered by rising inflation and the increased cost of living. - Climate Change: The erratic nature of climate patterns due to climate change are disproportionately felt by agricultural workers. Extreme weather conditions, from heatwaves to floods, not only threaten their livelihoods but also their health and ability to work consistently. - Lack of Protections and Support: Farmworkers often lack access to basic labor protections, healthcare, and social safety nets. This leaves them vulnerable to exploitation and unable to advocate for better wages and working conditions. Addressing this issue is a moral imperative, vital for a sustainable and equitable food system. https://lnkd.in/gvupMVxa

NEW: California just passed a resolution calling on the federal government to address food date labels. 💡 Key context: Food date labels are not federally regulated, except for those on infant formula. 💬 What that means: Right now, there is a patchwork of state laws requiring different phrases (there are currently almost 60 in use!) on different products, and some states have no date label requirements at all. Confusion over date labels is responsible for 6.5M tons of wasted food each year. 👍 The good news: California Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin is authoring a bill (AB 660) aiming to fix the issue for food sold within the state.  If passed, it would standardize consumer-facing date labels to either "BEST If Used By" to indicate optimal freshness and quality or “USE By” to indicate the discard date. While we're thrilled to see this incredible stride towards preventing food waste, the Zero Food Waste Coalition also knows this issue extends beyond state borders and requires the entire nation to act. That's why we've been advocating for the Food Date Labeling Act to pass at the federal level for over a year—and will continue to do so. K-12 schools and colleges play a pivotal role in accelerating food waste reduction, fostering the next generation of climate activists and environmental conservationists. We talked to Jayla Sheffield, an intern at WWF's Food Waste Warriors Program and current college student, to hear why this work matters. She shared, “As a current college student with the privilege of being able to access higher education, I want to challenge systems that create excessive waste and do it in a way that exemplifies my passion for building sustainable and food autonomous communities.” >> Pitzer College has student-run initiatives like the Food Recovery Network, which redistributes leftover food to shelters, and composting programs that have diverted over 100,000 pounds of waste since 2017. >> Howard County Public Schools used a Maryland School Waste Reduction and Composting Grant to start composting programs across the district, educating students on food waste reduction. (https://shorturl.at/0zXCt) Where else have you seen students take action on food waste?
