Local organizations play a critical role in creating systemic change within the criminal legal system. With better access to data and technology, communities can advocate for and implement policies that promote equity. Urban Institute and the Microsoft Justice Reform Initiative are partnering to fund projects that use data and technology to promote racial equity in the criminal legal system. These projects aim to advance racial equity in areas such as prevention, policing, and prosecution. Highlights include: - Analyzing data to support overincarcerated groups - Investigating racial disparities in arrests to improve policing practices - Developing tools for court watching programs to enhance pre-trial decision transparency - Grantees will receive funding, expert assistance, access to Microsoft technology, and peer learning opportunities.
