Ironically, the challenge founders currently face isn't losing to AI itself but to the huge companies that own AI--or rather own the immense computational resources needed to train, deploy, and build novel AI. For example, tech giants like Microsoft, Google, Meta, and Amazon have been buying huge amounts of Nvidia chips, with Microsoft alone planning to acquire 1.8 million GPUs by the end of 2024, according to Observer. What chance does a founder have to truly disrupt an ecosystem when they lack the tools large enterprises have? It's like fighting a war with rocks, bows, and arrows against ballistic missiles. Is it hopeless? Expert Opinion By Micha Y. Breakstone, founder and CEO of Somite.ai.

If you spent your Tuesday evening listening to the VP Debate, then you know little was said about how either administration would specifically impact small business owners and entrepreneurs. Both nominees did however shed some light on how they view existing policies regarding childcare, housing, and manufacturing. That was the final scheduled debate for this campaign season, bringing us just a month out from Election Day: https://lnkd.in/eFFeHpri

Are growth and profitability mutually exclusive? That was on my mind during my recent #FromtheGroundUp podcast conversation with Parachute founder Ariel Kaye. While Parachute has been omnichannel since 2016, when the bed-linens company opened its first physical location in Venice, California, in 2022, it opened more than a dozen locations. It has about 25 locations presently, and now, according to Kaye, the name of the game is sustained profitability. So how is the company hoping to hit this mile marker? It's the billion dollar question for just about every consumer brand these days. Here's what Kaye had to say: https://lnkd.in/ebMWn556 And do check out the brilliant collab Christine Lagorio-Chafkin and I dreamed up. (It's destined to be a hit with kid influencers.)

Yep, another union strike (and possibly another holiday season with an ugly supply chain). Port workers started walking out this morning because an agreement between their union and port owners was not made for the first time since 1977. Companies like Katana Cloud Inventory are monitoring what that means for businesses and their overseas shipments. Whether the strike lasts a day or weeks, delays are likely. But if you've been in the retail game over the last five years, this doesn't look much different from meltdowns of years past... for now.
ICYMI: workers at 36 East and Gulf coast ports went on strike earlier today, disrupting nearly half of all U.S. imports. Even days of a port strike could mean weeks (or longer!) of delays. Inc. Magazine's Sydney Sladovnik spoke with Ben H., co-CEO of Katana Cloud Inventory, about what this means for supply chains across industries – especially for retailers as they enter their busiest quarter of the year. The key takeaway? It’s critical that businesses have accurate data to respond to disruptions now and prepare for the future. Check out her article to learn more about how the labor strike could impact your supply chain.
