About us
Independent Sector is the only national membership organization that brings together a diverse community of changemakers, nonprofits, foundations, and corporations working to strengthen civil society and ensure all people in the United States thrive. Independent Sector formed in 1980 when Coalition of National Voluntary Organizations and the National Council on Philanthropy merged into one umbrella organization to help promote sensible national policies and communicate the value of a strong and unified charitable community. From its headquarters in Washington, DC, Independent Sector advocates for public policies that affect the charitable sector, builds knowledge on behalf of the sector, and connects the hard-working organizations and leaders within the sector.

Welcome to Independent Sector! We are extremely excited for ISVE to join us and we look forward to the amazing work we can do together.
After a nationwide search for a new home, the Initiative for Strategic Volunteer Engagement (ISVE) has selected Independent Sector to house the Initiative and shape the future of how nonprofits and funders leverage the power of volunteers. We want to extend our gratitude to all of you who have followed and contributed to our work over the past 3 years. We’ve made a huge impact. At ISVE, we’ve always known that we would find a new permanent home for the work, and Independent Sector couldn’t be a better choice. While we will close this LinkedIn account at the end of 2024, it’s just another new beginning. You can follow Independent Sector to get the latest news, research, resources, events, and inspiration moving forward. Read more ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eAmiDU2P If you would like to learn more about joining Independent Sector’s ISVE Advisory Committee, please contact Dr. Rashid Mosley, Vice President of Programs (rashidm@independentsector.org) by November 8, 2024.

After a nationwide search for a new home, the Initiative for Strategic Volunteer Engagement (ISVE) has selected Independent Sector to house the Initiative. We’re honored to play a role in shaping the future of how nonprofits and funders leverage the power of volunteers. Strategic volunteer engagement — the practice of building structures and capacity to engage volunteers in meaningful ways — can help nonprofits become more adaptable, sustainable, and capable of working at scale. However, this work takes time, expertise, planning, and resources. We are committed to continuing to build on ISVE’s legacy to: - Deliver insights and practical tools that support nonprofits to better harness the power of volunteers, and funders to further invest in strategic volunteer engagement. - Convene leaders in the social sector to explore how to overcome barriers and embrace opportunities to adopt strategic volunteer engagement practices. - Promote strategic volunteer engagement to funders and nonprofits alike as an effective approach to advance their mutual goals, and advocate for greater support. You can follow us to get the latest news, research, resources, events, and inspiration moving forward. We are also forming an Advisory Committee to provide guidance and insights into the future of this work. If you are an interested researcher, practitioner, nonprofit or philanthropy association representative, please contact Dr. Rashid Mosley, Vice President of Programs (rashidm@independentsector.org) by November 8, 2024.
