As we recognize National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it's a good reminder that early detection truly saves lives. Regular screenings, like mammograms and self-exams, can catch breast cancer early when treatment is most effective. Schedule a screening for yourself and remind those around you to do the same. #NativeHealth #IndianCountry #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth

To raise the physical, mental, social, and spiritual health of American Indians and Alaska Natives to the highest level.
About us
The Indian Health Service, an agency within the US Department of Health and Human Services , works to ensure that all American Indian and Alaska Native people receive comprehensive health care services and all Indian health facilities are staffed with well-trained, compassionate, committed health care professionals. IHS offers extraordinary career opportunities that provide comprehensive, patient-centered care in a variety of disciplines and health care facility settings. An Indian health career offers dedicated practitioners a chance to live and work within Native communities, providing a unique opportunity to learn about the heritage of the Tribe, discover the traditions that have been handed down for generations and gain cultural insight into Native beliefs and values. IHS is hiring physicians, pharmacists, dentists, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, behavioral health providers and other health professionals. We offer a choice of three options for health professionals to practice their specific discipline: working as a federal civil service employee, as an Officer in the Commissioned Corps of the US Public Health Service (USPHS) or directly for a Tribal or Urban Indian program. Each career option offers career flexibility, competitive salaries and benefits and ample opportunity for advancement. Applicants must be US citizens. IHS also provides for the education, recruitment and retention of health care professionals through the IHS Scholarship Program, the IHS Extern Program and the IHS Loan Repayment Program. IHS has openings available nationwide right now. The policy of the IHS is to provide absolute preference to qualified Indian applicants and employees who are suitable for federal employment in filling vacancies within the IHS. IHS is an equal opportunity employer. Privacy Policy: https://www.ihs.gov/privacypolicy/

Historic news! Today, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, approved allowing—for the first time ever—Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program coverage of traditional health care practices provided by IHS facilities, tribal facilities, and urban Indian organizations. IHS Director Roselyn Tso stated, “American Indian and Alaska Natives have been endowed by our ancestors a deep and priceless wealth of traditional healing knowledge. These practices have sustained our people's health for generations and continue to serve as a vital link between culture, science, and wellness in many of our communities. We appreciate the Administration’s commitment to move forward with covering this care, and the IHS is honored to be a partner in this essential work.” Learn more at: https://bit.ly/4h4RFXB #NativeHealth #IndianCountry

On behalf of the IHS National E3 Vaccine Strategy Operations Team, we congratulate the Catawba Service Unit for their qualification as our fifth E3 Champion! The IHS National E3 Vaccine Strategy was first announced in November 2022, with the E3 Champions Challenge and pilot program launching shortly thereafter. As part of the E3 strategy, IHS encourages that every patient at every encounter be offered every recommended vaccine, when appropriate. As we seek to promote routine immunization, increase vaccine coverage rates, and mitigate the risks of vaccine preventable illness in tribal communities, the innovation and successful best practices developed at the local level by vaccine exemplars such as the Catawba Service Unit team are an inspiration. Thank you for your team's commitment to vaccine excellence in Indian Country!

Discover what makes PATH EHR different with the Health IT Modernization Program! The program is building PATH EHR with “Patients at the Heart” by focusing on interoperability. Interoperability is the ability of different health data systems to share data securely and efficiently, allowing health care providers to access a patient's medical information regardless of where the patient has received care. It is a priority of the Health IT Modernization Program that PATH EHR is being built to work across not only specialties, but also health care facilities across Indian Country for more efficient and streamlined care.
