🚀 Introducing our INDI1 Baseline! 🚀 After a multistep, multidisciplinary, and multi-objective optimization campaign, we’ve selected the most promising configuration aimed at significantly improving #LocalAirQualityandNoise (LAQN). The INDI1 aircraft has been designed to cover 1000nm while maintaining the same MTOW and Maximum Payload as the A320. Here are the prospective improvements over the A320: ✈️ Fuel burn below 900m: Reduction of 68.2% 🔊 Noise (EPNL): Reduction of 11.5 dB ⛽ Block fuel: Reduction of 30.1% A big shoutout to the in-house #MDAO code #MOTIVATION, which, based on the #OpenMDAO library, played a key role in integrating all INDIGO's partner expertise and guiding towards this remarkable results #SustainableAviation #AviationInnovation #INDIGOProject https://lnkd.in/dvVCD8FU

The meeting also served as a great reminder of the incredible work the INDIGO consortium is doing to improve Local Air Quality and Noise (LAQN) around airports. Rauno led discussions on our integrated approach, leveraging #MDO to guide the optimal design of Large Aspect Ratio Wings with Distributed Hybrid Electric Propulsion. This methodology is vital for achieving our mission to reduce emissions, noise, and the environmental impact on airport neighborhoods. Special thanks to coauthors Pablo Norczyk Simon, who further developed our in-house MDAO platform, and Andrea Cini. Karl presented on our cutting-edge research in hybrid-electric aircraft propulsion, focusing on how we can leverage advanced power training system featuring hybrid electric distributed propulsion to reduce emissions and noise in the neighborhood of airports. His contributions are key to moving us closer to a future of sustainable, greener aviation.
