Creative Reuse Center and Arts Programming Non-Profit

About us

MISSION: Indigo Hippo aims to broaden access to creativity, reduce waste, and inspire a sense of possibility by giving creative materials a second life in the hands of our community. ABOUT: Indigo Hippo is a Creative Reuse Center (think arts supply thrift store) and arts programming 501-(c)(3) non-profit located in the heart of Cincinnati’s historic Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. We aim to make creativity accessible to everyone by offering creative materials at pay-what-you-can pricing and through our various community-based arts programs. To date, Indigo Hippo has diverted over 200,000 pounds (the weight of 50 hippos!) of creative materials away from landfills and into the hands of local artists and community groups. Through our partnerships with local organizations and other non-profits, we seek to combine care of the earth with care of people and provide creative materials and arts programming in ways that are accessible, equitable, and sustainable. Visit our website or storefront, located at 1334 Main Street, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45202, to learn more about our collaborations and creative programming!

Help Indigo Hippo stay afloat! 🦛 The hard truth is that, like so many others, times have been tough for us and we need your help to continue being your beloved pay-what-you-can art supply store. Indigo Hippo has strived to be a valued community resource and an asset to Cincinnati’s arts community by making creative materials accessible, offering artist opportunities, sparking collaborations, and advocating for environmental sustainability. 🎨♻️ None of this would have been possible without the help of our amazing supporters over the years, but now, we find ourselves at a crossroads. Without additional financial assistance, Indigo Hippo will have to make some very tough decisions about our future - and we humbly ask for your ongoing support to "help Indigo Hippo stay afloat!” No donation is too small, and every little bit makes a big difference. Many drops of water make a mighty river! At Indigo Hippo, we believe that creativity should be accessible to everyone, and we will continue with that mission as long as possible. We are nearly a month into our stay afloat fundraiser and have a huge hippo-sized thank you to everyone who has contributed so far, however we have not made our way down the river to safety just yet. For this reason we invite you to join us in ensuring that Indigo Hippo can keep creativity accessible and champion sustainability far into the future! We couldn’t do this without you! Thank you. 💙🦛 https://lnkd.in/gvX-6WUY

Hangout with us during Second Sunday on Main, OTR’s oldest street festival! 🎉 Second Sunday on Main (SSOM) is a free neighborhood street festival that has garnered popularity over the years and become a Cincinnati tradition for celebrating community, creativity and culture. From June through September, SSOM will return monthly to historic Main Street with vibrant arts and music programming and a diverse vendor market. Presented by Over-the-Rhine Chamber of Commerce (OTRCC), the free monthly street festival started in 2004 as a way to drive more daytime traffic to what was then known as the Main St. Entertainment District. OTRCC and local property owners, businesses and residents came together and ultimately created what is now known as Second Sunday on Main! Join us June 9th between 12 and 6 PM and take part in the fun!

Did you know Indigo Hippo has a Gallery space? Our Gallery is always free and open to the public, and we are excited to announce our our next Gallery show, Garden Party, starts this Friday, May 31! Garden Party is a collaborative exhibition including works from Stephanie Berrie and Alex McClay. Both artists seek to explore issues of bodily autonomy, feminism, and personal experience through the means of printmaking, weaving, and beading. Berrie is interested in the idea of the “monstrous feminine” with her bright and colorful, but strange and unsettling, floral pieces, whereas McClay uses text in her meticulous hand-beaded works to convey personal experience, memory, and violence against women. These artists, although different, come together to show how their works coexist within these discussions of what it means to be human, specifically a woman, and how these messages can be seen through the means of printmaking, drawing, beading, and weaving. The show will run from 5/31 to 6/29 and will be available for viewing at the Indigo Hippo Storefront and Gallery on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays between 12pm - 6pm. RSVP to our Gallery Opening Reception Here: https://lnkd.in/gHjKVJET
