New Manual Review Process from FEMA

It's official. FEMA has canceled training classes at the National Fire Academy (NFA) in Emmitsburg, MD, starting this week through the end of August. FEMA has also canceled all in-person, on-site emergency management training classes at every FEMA campus in the US, such as Collaborative Technical Assistance (CTA) programs, EMI classes, Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP), etc., for the near future with no further information available. The National Disaster & Emergency Management University in Emmitsburg, MD, is home to both the Emergency Management Institute (EMI) and the NFA. Just as the NFA is the preeminent federal fire training academy in the US, EMI is our country’s preeminent emergency management training academy. EMI trains over two million students annually, training federal, state, local, tribal, volunteer, public, and private sector officials. That training strengthens emergency managers and their communities across this country. . For almost 50 years, EMI has provided emergency managers, whether brand new, mid-career, or seasoned professionals, with high-quality, inexpensive training, which they can bring back to their jurisdiction or organization. In turn, this training allows emergency managers to help the people they serve to be safer and more prepared. Losing NETC/EMI or any of FEMA’s other emergency management training would be devastating to emergency managers across the country, to the emergency management profession as a whole, and most importantly, to communities and states around the nation. If FEMA’s emergency management training programs are something you feel is important for our industry, please contact your federal and state representatives and urge them to advocate for these programs.
