As part of our mission to help drive sustainable innovation, ITI has identified 8 key factors that influence a data center’s energy consumption level. Here’s a breakdown: 1. The first of these factors is the cooling systems in place. By harnessing emerging cooling technologies, data center designers can significantly reduce their facilities' #energy consumption and overall footprint. 2. Next is the type of hardware in place at the site, innovations in data storage technology and efficient processors can reduce the amount of energy used, heightening efficiency. 3. After that comes regulatory compliance, developing effectively crafted regulations, metrics, and performance standards can promote efficiency in energy usage and foster innovations that can drive #energyefficiency. 4. Proper siting and facility design are both important considerations for avoiding excess energy usage and inefficiency. 5. Cutting-edge software techniques, like server virtualization, can significantly decrease the energy consumed by a #data center's hardware, reducing the number of machines required to operate. 6. By integrating renewable energy sources into the energy mix can help reduce data centers' footprint while improving reliability and resilience against energy disruptions. 7. Overall, fostering an #innovation-friendly environment for #technology can go a long way to producing new solutions that can help optimize data center performance. 8. Finally, building a more resilient power infrastructure can reduce the need for on-site back-up power systems, reducing energy expenditure.
