Supporting the Best Park in History!
About us
The Independence Historical Trust, (formerly the Friends of Independence National Historical Park) is a 501(C) 3 non-profit that supports Independence National Historical Park; the national park that protects preserves and interprets Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell and the 54 plus historical acres located in the City of Philadelphia. The Trust was created in 1972 and is the first "Friends" group in the National Park Service. Over our long history we have purchased or acquired over 1,000 artifacts for the park’s permanent collections, fundraised for large public spaces in the park and provided educational tours and programs to visitors and locals alike. Our goal has been the same goal since the first day of our existence… To support Independence National Historical Park in any capacity we can and to promote the history, the beauty and the educational values of the park to all people who visit.

Join us for our 3rd Annual Washington's Farewell! During this night of toast, drinks, and comradery, we loosely re-create a farewell event for General George Washington at the historic City Tavern following the conclusion of the Constitutional Convention. Before the famous document was signed, Washington and some friends headed over to City Tavern for a party hosted by the First Troop Philadelphia City Cavalry. The bar tab came to over 89 pounds - or $15,400+ in today's money! Come celebrate with refreshments and merriment! Featuring Dad's Hat Pennsylvania Rye Whiskey, Philadelphia Mead Company, and Yards Brewing Co. ... and back for another year, Tom the Grog Guy! Raise a glass to the General! Huzzah! --- Tickets are $40. Food and drink included. (vegetarian options available) Get your tickets here: https://lnkd.in/e9kg8sPD

Today, NPF is celebrating a historic, $100 million-dollar grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. that will scale and accelerate our mission to ensure national parks are protected, accessible, and welcoming – today and for future generations. For over 50 years, private philanthropy has played a vital role in bridging the gap between park needs and available funding. The grant will be used toward safeguarding threatened wildlife and land, inspiring the next generation of park stewards, preserving the story of America, and enhancing the visitor experience in our 430 national parks. Learn more about how this grant will drive impact at NPF: https://lnkd.in/eFUzrsd5

We are 22 months and one week from celebrating our nation’s 250th Declaration of Independence! Had the pleasure of providing a 5:15pm start Twilight Tour sponsored by Independence Historical Trust. We had guests from Texas, New Jersey and as far away as Spain and England! Fellow guide Craig Brody had a bigger tour also at 6pm. Craig and I happen to be from Columbia Lodge #91. Covered some of the key sites in America's "Most Historic Square Mile" that included the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Congress Hall, Old City Hall, Carpenter’s Hall, Second Bank of the United States, First Bank of the United States, the Bicentennial Bell, Merchants' Exchange Building and finally, City Tavern.
