🗞 Press Release Inkster Housing Commission Achieves Standard Performer Designation After Nearly a Decade Inkster, MI – June 19, 2024 — The Inkster Housing Commission (IHC) is thrilled to announce that it has achieved the Standard Performer Designation from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the first time in nearly 10 years. This milestone marks a significant turnaround and a testament to the dedication and hard work of the IHC team, participants and community partners. The Standard Performer Designation is awarded to housing authorities that demonstrate excellence in management, financial operations, and the maintenance of their properties. Achieving this designation is no small feat, requiring consistent, high-quality performance across a range of metrics. “We are incredibly proud to have reached this milestone,” said Gladys Neal, interim executive director of the Inkster Housing Commission. “This achievement reflects the collective efforts of our staff, the support of our participants, and the collaboration with our community partners. It’s a clear indication that we are on the right track and that our efforts to improve the quality of life for our participants are making a tangible difference.” The Detroit Field Office (DFO) conducted an onsite confirmatory review in early April this year, and observed that IHC implemented several suggestions provided by the DFO during the previous year. The files were well organized in a way that made reviewing the documentation simple, including running tapes for income verification, and the utility allowance schedule utilized. Leading these efforts are Nancy Sanford, housing choice voucher manager at Inkster Housing Commission and her team Randi Robinson and Danita Westbrook, both housing choice voucher specialists. Annually, housing authorities undergo the Section 8 Management Assessment (SEMAP) review. Fourteen (14) key areas are evaluated in this review, including the proper selection of applicants from the Housing Choice Voucher waiting list; the determination of reasonable rent for each unit leased; ensuring that units comply with Housing Quality Standards (HQS); and the enrollment of families in the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program.
