How often do you pause to reflect? We all have moments where we leave a conversation or a meeting that didn’t go the way we wanted. We are left replaying what happened in our head, wondering what went wrong and what we could have done differently. Practicing reflection can help us understand when we act on our values and when we do not. When we are intentional about practicing reflection we take the time to really ask ourselves, do our choices align with the person we want to be? Once you find what practice works for you - whether that is using a journal, quiet meditation, or speaking with someone else and thinking out loud - consider what your actions, how you felt, and what impact you made. ✔️ Did you achieve your original goal? ✔️ What did your experience teach you? ✔️ What will you do differently next time? In 2021, we began partnering with Read to Them, as the organization embarked on a three-year strategic plan. ✨ They saw tremendous success and growth as the plan was executed, adapting it along the way to take advantage of new opportunities as their reputation grew, like partnering with the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. 📚 Read to Them re-engaged our team this year to help them create a new five-year plan, building on their success. To do so, the staff and board came together last Friday with Sharon Amoss with a goal of intentionally engaging around their four organizational values as they worked to envision the future. We started with their value of Connection, which they define as "fostering togetherness and strengthening relationships through shared stories" by sharing the stories of the previous plan - the successes and the lessons learned. We considered how each of Read to Them's stakeholders experience their values and how that experience could be deepened in the new plan, and as we engaged the value of Imagination, "encouraging innovation and curiosity," the group allowed themselves to dream about what might be possible in the future! 📚 We're thrilled to continue to help this amazing organization refine their vision for the next five years and identify the work that will be needed to make it a reality!
