🌍🌲 Are you ready to align with the EUDR? Register for the Due Diligence Registry today to stay ahead!   The EU Regulation on deforestation-free products targets companies dealing with cattle, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, rubber, soy and wood products. Large and medium enterprises must comply by 30.12.2024, while micro and small businesses have until 20.06.2025. However, there's a proposal to delay the start by 12 months pending European Parliament approval.   📆 Starting November 2024, companies can register in the Deforestation Due Diligence Registry and will gain full access from December. This system allows easy electronic submission of due diligence statements to prove compliance.   🔑 Key Features: - Specify product origins via maps or GeoJSON coordinates - Detail product types, quantities, and volumes - Manage and track statements through a user-friendly dashboard - Large companies can integrate via API for streamlined management   📋 Due Diligence Requirements: 1. Collect Information: Gather documents and data proving the product is deforestation-free and legal, including geolocation coordinates, quantity and country of production. 2. Risk Assessment: Evaluate the risk of non-compliance. Demonstrate how collected information was assessed against risk criteria. 3. Risk Mitigation: Implement procedures and measures to mitigate any identified risks to ensure compliance.   Operators (and non-SME traders) must establish a due diligence system for all products. Simplified due diligence applies to those sourcing entirely from low-risk areas.   The Food Security Standard (FSS) can support companies in meeting EUDR requirements by verifying the human rights situation at the production level—ensuring ethical and compliant sourcing. Sometimes I see such innovations and I watch, over and over again because when verified and approved, they hold intrinsic value to local communities that depend on water from the river as their source for home and livestock. You see, when it rains in the village, there is alot of silt flowing from upstream, thus muddying the water. Communities do harvest rain water, though it is never enough for the season. They are left with only 2 options. 1. Drink muddy water 2. Travel longer distances in search of Wells that are not affected by the silt. Consumes much more time and its back breaking work. 🚨 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀: 𝗘𝗨 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝟭𝟮-𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝘄 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 During a webinar just now, we were informed by a representative of the Netherlands Minister of Agriculture that the European Commission has announced a proposal to delay the compliance deadlines for the EU Deforestation Regulation (#EUDR) by 12 months. When you are reading this, you might like my follow up post as well: https://lnkd.in/dQEd_nQm This follows significant pressure from EU governments, trade partners, and industry stakeholders. 🔑 Key Updates: - Large companies: Compliance deadline now extended to end of 2025 - Small and micro-businesses: New deadline is June 30, 2026 - This additional time will serve as a "phasing-in" period to ensure smooth implementation. 📄 The EUDR mandates that companies ensure products are not sourced from deforested or degraded land. While the tools for implementation are ready, the Commission argues this extra time is critical for a smoother transition. The proposal still requires approval from the European Parliament and EU member states. Additionally, the Commission has published guidance on how to apply the regulation, including enforcement details.
