Perfectionism is a predisposition to hold ourselves to exceptionally high standards, often accompanied by an intense fear of making mistakes or falling short of standards. It results in a pursuit of flawless work, unwavering attention to detail, and an overwhelming desire to meet others expectations flawlessly. Please join IWIL's friends and colleagues Jordana Confino, Patrick R. Krill and NALP by participating in their brief (10 minutes) Lawyer Perfectionism & Well-Being Survey. DEADLINE EXTENDED but hurry, the survey closes OCTOBER 21! SURVEY LINK: https://lnkd.in/g66MtutB

DEADLINE EXTENDED!! Friends: If you haven't yet completed the Lawyer Perfectionism & Well-Being Survey, OR shared the survey information with the lawyers at your organization, IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO DO SO. In anticipation of World Mental Health Day (coming up on October 10), we have decided to extend the deadline for completing the survey to October 21, 2024. The study will generate valuable data on risk factors related to mental health and well-being problems among lawyers, with a specific focus on the relationship between mental health, substance use, and the perfectionist tendencies that are common within the legal profession. Supporting this research is the perfect way to commemorate World Mental Health Day. I hope you will join us!!! Considering the challenges lawyers face today—rising stress, burnout, and the pressures of constant performance — it becomes clear that a new approach to leadership is needed. Embracing the seven timeless traits of the heart, Cardiologist Jonathan Fisher, MD, FACC shares how legal leaders can create environments that not only drive success but also nurture the well-being of every team member. Leadership in law, much like in medicine, is not just about optimizing strategy and striving for results. It’s about creating a symphony of collaboration, purpose, and sustainable success — a workplace where every individual feels heard, valued, and empowered to contribute their unique gifts. Let us lead with our hearts and, in doing so, foster a legal profession that thrives not just in the courtroom but in the well-being of those who practice it. #legalwellbeing #lawyerwellbeing #IWIL #wellbeinginlaw

Mason J. Dunn brings Part 2 on Moving the Needle from Performative to Active Allyship. Education, and having curiosity about identities and communities that may not be our own, are some of the primary steps of allyship. Continuing that education, unlearning bias, and recognizing that there is always more to learn, are the next steps. Now is the time to reflect, and consider actionable ways the legal community might move the needle from performative allyship to something deeper and meaningful, especially in today’s frightening anti-LGBTQ+ political climate. This article provides practical ideas and includes helpful resources. #allyship #legalwellbeing #wellbeinginlaw #iwil #lawyerwellbeing

Last night Anne received an Award for her service and contributions to mental health and well-being from Women Influence & Power in Law (WIPL). Congratulations Dr. Brafford! IWIL is deeply grateful and thankful to you, Anne. Enjoy the recognition, because it is well deserved!
Feeling proud and grateful for being recognized for my 10+ years of work on lawyer well-being by the Women Influence & Power in Law (WIPL) award for mental health and well-being. I’m grateful to my biggest cheerleader and supporter Daniel Sasse who joined me for the event, the awesome Marcie Dickson who nominated me, and the community of well-being advocates who have continued to support me and this important work — including especially Bree Buchanan, Tara Antonipillai, JD, MAPP, and Denise Gaskin at the Institute for Well-Being in Law (IWIL). And big thanks to Christine Elfmann and Crowell & Moring for coordinating and sponsoring the awards dinner attendance for Marcie and me. I can’t wait to see what we all can do together in the next 10 years to continue to make progress!
