Please welcome Jonathan Rothfus as a Hardware-in-the Loop Engineer! Jon joins our Navy Power and Energy System (NPES) project team, a joint program with USC Molinaroli College of Engineering and Computing that uses #digitaltwins to develop a predictive energy management system that offers high-speed decision aids to ship operators. As a Hardware-in-the-Loop engineer, Jon creates systems to test control software using a combination of software simulations and real-world hardware. In the context of Integer’s work, this involves creating models of electrical power and energy systems, such as those that might be found on a ship, and simulating their control and operation both in software and using real-world hardware to analyze performance under a variety of normal and faulted conditions. Jon relocated to our Columbia, SC, headquarters office from his hometown of Des Moines, Iowa. Jon graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor’s degree in #ComputerEngineering. His experience includes working in avionics software at Collins Aerospace, hardware test automation at John Deere, and performing wind turbine repairs across the U.S. (see photo). “I’m excited to work at a young company focused on R&D,” Jon said. “I was also attracted to Integer because it’s small enough now that I can meet and get to know a large percentage of the employees in person. The company is also growing fast, so it’s a cool time to start with the company. I think there is a lot of opportunity for growth and working with sharp people at Integer.” Some fun facts about Jon – he is the second-to-youngest sibling out of 7 siblings.
