IBI published a study this week that highlights the importance of health benefits in shaping employee satisfaction and performance. We surveyed 1,001 full-time employed women in the U.S. across various industries and notably found that benefit use is associated with fewer missed workdays. Highlights from the survey: ✔ 89% of participants agree that employer benefits positively influence overall workplace satisfaction. ✔ 85% believe that benefits play a crucial role in attracting and retaining talent. ✔ Preventive care emerged as the most commonly used benefit, with 63% of respondents accessing it, followed by mental health support at 54%. ✔ Cost, time constraints, and scheduling difficulties are the top barriers to utilizing benefits. ✔ All benefit use was associated with fewer missed work days. ✔ Mental health benefits had the strongest association with reduced absenteeism, followed by reproductive health services and maternity care. IBI's latest report "Social Determinants of Mental Health" (part 2 of a 3 part series) examines the prevalence and factors associated with anxiety, depression, and loneliness in the U.S. workforce. In the workplace, loneliness can manifest as social isolation from colleagues, leading to reduced job performance, lower job satisfaction, and increased turnover intentions. Highlights from IBI's analysis: ✔ Clinically relevant anxiety was reported in 26.7% of the workforce, while clinically relevant depression was reported in 20.0%. ✔ 12.9% of the workforce indicated experiencing frequent loneliness assessed with an indication of usually or always experiencing loneliness. ✔ Those who worked fully in-person were the most likely to experience anxiety or depression. ✔ The lowest loneliness rate was for those working from home 3-4 days per week at 7.9%. ✔ Those who have social support have reduced odds of loneliness by 91%. ✔ Being a parent of a child with mental health needs increases odds of anxiety or depression by 92% and loneliness by 77%. IBI's latest study "The Economic Impact of Poor Mental Health" dives into nationally representative data to identify the prevalence, lost productivity, and compounded effects of comorbidities in the US workforce. Additionally, the study analyzes disability costs and durations using claims from IBI’s Benchmarking data to provide a more complete picture of the financial burden on employers. Highlights from IBI's analysis: ✔ Approximately 34% of employed adults need mental health treatment for anxiety and depression. ✔ Employees with anxiety or depression have higher rates of other chronic health conditions. ✔ Employees with clinically relevant anxiety/depression average 4.6 more sick days annually than individuals without those conditions. ✔ The average annual cost per employee due to mental health issues is about $1,488, including lost time ($445), job turnover ($533), and healthcare ($510). ✔ Public administration has the highest disability-related costs, at $76,214 for a company with 1,000 covered lives.
