We do this by focusing on what is missing. Typically, when the owner of, say, a 100,000 SF office building needs to replace two chillers on the building roof, the reason for the upgrade is that the equipment is "inefficient," lacks controls, or is just old, and thus, the chillers waste energy. The estimated total installed cost for two chillers can be about $275,000. What is missing? New chillers are more efficient than older ones mainly because of better controls. We contend that upgrading the existing chillers' controls extends the existing chillers' economic life by a minimum of ten years. Inteliglas has developed a method using artificial intelligence to install an advanced level of control that enables existing chillers to operate as effectively as new ones.
