EMOTIONAL SUPPORT. Damaged homes, flattened cars, days without power. Natural disaster takes a toll on its victims. It also impacts the first responders. Here in #GreenvilleSC many of the City employees who pulled stranded drivers from flood waters, cleared roads, cut trees and hauled debris, saw damage to their own homes and property. To thank them for their efforts and provide some comfort and stress relief, AT&T brought Dolly, one of their therapy dogs, to our Public Works Campus this week. WE'RE GRINDING. Storm debris piles are becoming mulch piles. So far our contractors have collected 70+ thousand cubic yards of debris, enough to fill: 🏊🏼♀️ 21 Olympic-sized pools ⚾️ The Greenville Drive's infield 77 times, 3 feet deep 🏟️ Bon Secours Wellness Arena 6 times, 3 feet deep 🏈 and cover 235 Clemson University football "Dabo-trons" 1 foot deep Our contractors carried 1300+ loads in 16 trucks twelve hours a day. We are still collecting. Help us by sorting your debris: https://lnkd.in/eqp7DpA2 Reminder: we are collecting your trash, recyclables and bulk waste on your regular pickup day.

SCAM ALERTS. STREET CLEARING. FLOOD ASSESSMENTS. FEMA impersonators are in our community. They are preying on vulnerable neighbors offering services for cash. Federal, state and local employees DO NOT charge for debris removal or tree clearing. Anyone with knowledge of fraud or abuse can report tips to the FEMA Disaster Fraud Hotline at 866-720-5721 or email StopFEMAFraud@fema.dhs.gov City crews and contractors are working on the remaining 38 streets that have trees in powerlines. Our goal is to clear all 38 streets by this evening. 97% of traffic signals are now operational. Engineering and Building Codes began assessments required by FEMA of all buildings in the floodplain today. They are taking letters that explain the process to property owners. These engineers will arrive in a city vehicle, in pairs, wearing yellow safety vests and have city identification. Municipal Court offices are open for walk-ins at 426 N. Main. Court sessions will resume in early November at our new Halton Road Complex. Parks staff rode the full length of the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail within the city to assess the damage and clean-up needs. Public Works is removing damaged trees from the parking lot at the Greenville Convention Center. Bon Secours Wellness Arena continues to be an outstanding community partner. Arena staff and volunteers are making 2500 lunches per day to support the United Way of Greenville County. The S.C. Department of Public Health is using the arena as a medical needs shelter for 100 patients and their caregivers. The shelter was described by a state official as “one of the best he has ever seen."

As the sun rises on this Thursday morning our crews, our contractors and utility companies are already at work. The only streets that are still blocked involve power lines. There are only 38 streets still blocked. We have 1,024 streets in the City. Nine of the 38 still have utility crews actively working on them. We hope to have all remaining streets cleared by the end of the day. All streets in the City that were blocked by trees without power lines have been cleared. Wednesday, the team cleared 96 partial blockages and 33 total blockages from City roadways. #3 📸: @jameselliottiv

➡️ MARKET MOVES FORWARD TO SUPPORT LOCAL! TD Saturday Market vendors and participants expressed overwhelming support for holding a market this weekend. 40+ vendors will be set up on Main Street between Court and Washington from 8 a.m. to noon. For many, missing even a single market could result in financial loss. The market was canceled last weekend. Farmers and growers depend on the timely sale of perishable goods. Our community relies on the market for fresh produce, including some items unavailable in stores due to the storm. Many citizens have asked how they can give back. The market is partnering with United Way of Greenville County to host a "Fill the Penske for Greenville" donation drive. ✅ Needed items include: Canned goods with pop tops (vegetables, fruits, soups, meats) Boxed meals (pasta, rice, cereal) Peanut butter and protein bars Bottled water and sports drinks Diapers, baby wipes and formulas Hygiene products (soap, toothpaste, feminine hygiene) First aid supplies (bandages, pain relievers) Cleaning supplies (disinfectant wipes, trash bags)

DOUBLING UP ⬆️ Wednesday #GreenvilleSC is doubling crews in neighborhoods to make a huge push to get our streets cleared. Our crews opened more than 45 roads Tuesday. All 146 streets classified as "priority" are clear. 👏🏽 Many thanks to our Public Works and #GCFD teams for their hard work to make sure all City roads are safe and passable.
