A new peer-reviewed study published in Substance Use & Misuse of new patients entering into Bicycle Health’s virtual opioid use disorder treatment plan showed that nearly 18% were using buprenorphine that had not been prescribed to them. The takeaway? Expanded access to buprenorphine could actually help lower the rate of diversion and help people receive the care they need. MOUDs are an essential part of our fight against the opioid epidemic. FDA-approved and clinically-proven, buprenorphine is a life-saving medication that helps patients achieve long-term recovery. But instead of protecting and expanding access to this medication via flexible, wraparound virtual care models, buprenorphine access remains arbitrarily limited.
