Today, we celebrate and honor all Indigenous Peoples and their communities. We recognize their significant impact on our society and the great suffering they have endured throughout our nation's history. We especially honor the numerous Native American tribes that call Maryland home, including the Accohannock Indian Tribe, the Assateague Peoples Tribe, the Nause-Waiwash Band of Indians, the Piscataway Conoy Tribes, the Piscataway Conoy Confederacy and the Cedarville Band of Piscataway Indians, the Pocomoke Indian Nation, and the Youghiogheny River Band of Shawnee Indians. May we forever recognize and celebrate these great communities' impact, resilience and culture.

We love when our community partners come together to support our clients and neighbors! Thank you for helping our clients on their pathways to stability!
We had a full group for our Volunteer Day at Interfaith Works where our group sorted and stocked clothing and food. It was wonderful to help others in our community. Thank you to Interfaith Works for being so well organized for us, to all our volunteers who came and helped, and to Clark Communications for bringing so many staff. We got a lot accomplished. #VolunteerDay #TeamWork #GivingBack #InterFaithWorks #GRCC #RockvilleChamber

Are you a student or the parent of a student who is looking for a way to get S.S.L. hours? We have several ways to volunteer! Come volunteer at our Essential Needs Center and work with our staff to sort and organize donations in our clothing center and food pantry. You can also make and serve prepared meals to clients in our shelters. Learn more about these and other opportunities here: www.iworksmc.org/volunteer

During #HispanicHeritageMonth we at IW want to highlight the incredible team at HMB Tech. This Hispanic-owned company has been an excellent partner to us at IW and provides tech support and assistance to our organization. We are glad to work with such a great group of professionals!

At a gathering last week, we were proud to share Interfaith Works' plans to make an impact in reducing health disparities and improving outcomes in underserved communities, thanks to the support of grant resources from the Maryland Health Equity Resource Communities (HERC) program. IW's Liz Krueger, LCSW-C, MPH and Sabina Rai, MSW joined representatives of the 11 other organizations selected to implement this important effort. We will focus on addressing mental health and substance use disorders for people experiencing homelessness in Montgomery County, connecting them to resources that include mental and behavioral health services and substance use programs. Thank you to those who convened this conversation, including Delegate Jazz Lewis, Vincent DeMarco of Maryland Health Care for All! Coalition, Nellie Washington, Maryland HERC Project Director, and Rev. Dr. Sandra Conner, President, Baptist Ministers’ Night Conference of Baltimore & Vicinity. #healthequity #SDOH

During Hispanic Heritage Month, we also want to highlight Hispanic-led community partners. The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Montgomery County provides a forum for matters affecting Hispanics and minorities in business. They advocate on behalf of the organization’s membership to achieve economic, educational, and social equality under the law, ensuring a positive and inclusive public image of Hispanic-owned businesses. Thank you for your work for our Hispanic neighbors and your ongoing support and partnership!
