TW: child loss When it became clear that an infant born recently at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah was not going to survive, the parents had one request — they wanted to take the baby home to spend time with their other children. However, for that to happen, a lot of teams had to come together in a very short time. Article written by: Lance Frazier #WeServeWithEmpathy #TogetherForTheHealthiestLives

During her job interview with Intermountain Health, Sheralee Petersen still remembers the interviewer reading her the values – worded differently now, 14 years later, but in the same spirit they are today – and thinking, “Wow, this is the culture I’ve been looking for.” Here, she reflects on what makes that culture so special and how it’s reflected in the Clinical Programs she currently serves as assistant vice president.  Article written by: Jef Otte #TogetherForTheHealthiestLives

I'm excited to share that Intermountain Health has received a funding award of $2.5 million from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to help improve antibiotic prescribing for children with respiratory infections. This project will allow over 1,350 of our clinicians to implement evidence-based practices that will help reduce the risk of drug-resistant infections while improving care for more than 270,000 children across our six-state footprint. This is a major step forward in antibiotic stewardship, which highlights the "Power of We" and Intermountain’s commitment to providing the highest level of care through collaboration between caregivers, patients, and community partners. I’m proud of the many teams who are working together on this initiative to shape the future of healthcare including Intermountain’s Healthcare Delivery Institute, Clinical Programs, Children’s Health, Medical Groups, Tele-health, Urgent Cares, Emergency Departments, and more. Thank you for helping our pediatric patients live their healthiest lives. #healthcarebestpractice #pediatriccare #PCORI #clinicalbestpractice #healthiestlives #proactivecare #PowerofWe #BetterTogether

Intermountain Health has been approved for a funding award designed to study the impact of improving antibiotic prescribing practices for acute respiratory tract infection throughout its multi-state service area. The $2.5 million project from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) will help Intermountain clinicians expand research-based practices for prescribing antibiotics to treat acute respiratory tract infection in children, avoid adverse side effects, and shrink the growing problem of drug-resistant infections.  The project will include more than 1,350 Intermountain clinicians who prescribe medications at 249 Intermountain Health pediatric and family medicine clinics, emergency departments, urgent care centers, and telehealth services throughout its service area, which includes Utah, Colorado, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and parts of Arizona and New Mexico. “For Intermountain Health, this project represents the largest, most complex, disciplined implementation of evidence-based practices in antibiotic stewardship, across all regions and in multiple settings,” said JP Valin, MD, chief clinical officer for Intermountain Health. “This project represents a significant springboard from which we can improve the care for more than 270,000 children with acute respiratory tract infections by promoting the adoption of evidence-based antibiotic prescribing practices throughout our system,” said Raj Srivastava, MD, chief clinical programs officer for Intermountain Health, who is leading the project. Intermountain Health’s multi-year project aims to equitably increase the use of narrow-spectrum antibiotics for the treatment of major respiratory tract infections. It also aims to reduce the duration of antibiotic prescriptions for selected respiratory infections. To achieve these project goals, Intermountain clinicians will implement findings from a PCORI-funded patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER) study that demonstrated that narrow-spectrum antibiotics were as effective as broad-spectrum antibiotics in treating acute respiratory tract infections among children, with fewer side effects.

According to the American Cancer Society, 5% to 10% of breast cancer cases are believed to be hereditary. That’s why at Intermountain Health, we offer comprehensive genetic counseling for those at risk for hereditary cancers--and close to home too! (Think, REALLY close). What used to be called the High-Risk Breast Clinic, Intermountain's High Risk Cancer Prevention Clinic provides predictive and preventive care for breast cancer, gastrointestinal cancers, and pancreatic cancer. Best of all? This clinic is totally telehealth-based—so you can meet with a provider in the comfort of your home—no need to travel to St. George, Utah for an appointment! If you think you are at high risk for cancer, a healthcare professional will walk you through a cancer risk test to determine your risk profile. If you are at high risk, your provider will make a personalized management plan aimed at preventing or reducing your risk for cancer. The plan may include genetic testing, which can identify specific gene mutations that increase a person's risk of developing certain types of cancers, increased screening and surveillance, lifestyle measures, chemoprevention, and/or risk-reducing surgeries. https://lnkd.in/gXFzqwSZ
