We are happy to announce that our Director of Curriculum, Research, and Programming, Christine Barkley MS, SHRM-CP, has become a founding member of the Industry Advisory Committee with Hospitality Internships! We look forward to working with them in the future towords hospitality management. Congratulations, Christine! 🎉
Hospitality Internships is honored to have Christine Barkley MS, SHRM-CP (Intern Bridge), as one of the founding members of our Industry Advisory Committee! Our newly launched Industry Advisory Committee (IAC) is tasked with enhancing the alignment of hospitality education with industry standards. A key initiative of this committee is to collaborate with academia to develop robust internship standards and create structured manager-in-training programs and entry-level management positions tailored to meet industry needs. Christine Barkley is the Director of Curriculum, Research, & Programming with Intern Bridge, a small research and consulting firm that partners with higher education institutions across the country to help educate employers about internships and support students’ career readiness with their Career Readiness Report. Christine manages Intern Bridge’s Total Internship Management workshops, helping employers and educational institutions build, maintain, sustain, and grow internships and other experiential education programs and initiatives. Over the last decade, Christine has been an experiential education program manager and a career coach and has successfully held professional leadership roles in public institutions of higher education. Her experience working with employers goes back to the start of her career when she managed internship and co-op programs, assisting organizations in building meaningful internship programs to better engage the students she served. Christine is also a design thinking enthusiast and views internships and other experiential education activities as ways students can prototype career paths before graduation. She obtained training from Stanford’s Life Design Lab and learned to create and launch design-thinking courses at universities. Christine continues to be uniquely skilled at integrating designing-thinking mindsets and practices into her work with employers and is constantly evolving the Total Internship Management workshop to encourage HR professionals to learn by doing and through feedback to identify new solutions. Christine earned a master’s degree in Higher Education from Penn State as well as two bachelor’s degrees in Childhood Education and Mathematics from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Cortland. Christine’s educational background also includes 2 certifications in Supervisory Essentials and Effective Management from the University of South Carolina as well as the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) Certified Professional certification. We look forward to working with Christine as our committee aims to influence the development of a practical and forward-thinking approach to hospitality education. Our overall goal is to connect hospitality, tourism, culinary arts, and sports management students with high-quality internships, manager-in-training program opportunities, and entry-level management positions around the globe! #hospitalityinternships
