💜 Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜 💙 IAHSS Hospital Security and Safety Week💙 Why do I celebrate the men and women of our hospital security this week? One reason is because I am nurse who has survived domestic violence. Did you know approximately 45% of nurses and doctors report experiencing domestic violence? (Average from several different studies) When these incidents become an employee and security concern at work, swift and well thought out action plans need to be made. Most security officers don’t stop there and take a vested interest in keeping employees safe at home too 💜 escorting to vehicles before and after shifts, creating safety plans, connecting to resources, helping secure safe shelter to name a few. Here is the 2011-2018 breakdown from the Bureau of Labor Statistics: Workplace homicides to healthcare workers, by assailant Assailant Number of fatal injuries Relative or domestic partner 45 All other, including unknown 31 Patient 23 Co-worker or work associate 21 Other client or customer 18 Acquaintance 9 Robber 9 Sadly it’s estimated that 20% of domestic violence related deaths are those of bystanders as well. Law enforcement, security, friends and families become victims too. During this Healthcare Security and Safety Week, we would like to recognize the critical role our security team plays in serving Valley Children's, our patients and families and staff 24/7/365! Our security department provides emergency response in our hospital and on the property, support helicopter operations, conduct patrol checks of the building, verify appointments at all entrances, enforce parking policies and support events on campus all while being the first friendly face to greet our patients and families! 😄

Today, we celebrated our TEAM at YNHH- Bridgeport Hospital during Healthcare Safety and Security Week.   Our officers at YNHH face many challenging situations daily. Always displaying a positive and caring attitude while delivering exceptional customer service to our client, patients and visitors through their hard work and dedication!   I would like to shout out all of our Supervisors: Andre, Dan, Neil, Scotty, Ramel, Marcel, Iyania, Damone, Alexus and Bianca for their hard work and commitment ensuring all of our shifts run smoothly while ensuring safety for all.   I would also like to shout out our management TEAM: Christopher Broems, MPA, CHPA and Michael Riccio as well as our HRBP: Armando Pabon without your hard work and dedication ensuring our officers have the tools to be successful none of this would be possible!
