  • From JCKOnline: By Karen Dybis, Contributing Editor Timed to highlight the month’s birthstone, the #Fabergé x #Gemfields Malaika Egg that was revealed July 1—the latest collaboration between the iconic art jeweler and the colored gemstone miner and marketer—is decorated with 308 Mozambican rubies. The deep red stones used in the one-of-a-kind egg objet come from Mozambique’s Montepuez ruby mine, which Gemfields majority-owns. Malaika means angel in Swahili, a language spoken in Mozambique, and the pattern on the egg’s exterior—done in the signature guilloché enamel that Fabergé is famous for—was designed to resemble angels’ wings. Fabergé combined the rubies with 4,312 round brilliant-cut white diamonds, 252 round brilliant-cut brown diamonds, 421 round pink sapphires, and 61 amethysts to bring out the fiery hue of the rubies, the brand said in a statement. All of the stones are set in 18k rose gold to complement the objet’s reds and pinks. See the full story at https://ow.ly/cILa50Suce9 #Repost #ICAMember #ColorTheWorld #Ruby #JulyBirthstone

  • Mahenge Gems provides the finest colored gemstones from Tanzania’s famed Mahenge region, East Africa and Sri Lanka. With direct mine access and a permanent presence in the Mahenge mining region, they have the first pick of the finest gemstones, straight from the mines. Founded by two like-minded guys who come from the most different backgrounds imaginable, #MahengeGems’ culture is an amalgamation of the best from East and West. Rimsan is a second-generation gemstone supplier with decades of experience in colored gemstones. He is also a master of the mysterious mixture of art and science required to single out the finest rough stones from the heaps of very average pieces that come directly from mines. Wez is a GIA graduate and Cultured Pearl Association of America C.P.S. with great experience in the colored gem industry at a multiple-award winning company. They place a huge importance on ethical sourcing and making sure that everyone they interact with is treated well. Mahenge Gems is an Accredited Ethical Member of ICA. This is an added assurance that all treatments and enhancements of gemstones are fully disclosed, gems are mined responsibly and traded sustainably, not sourced using child labor, and obtained legally. They uphold this standard because they believe that the best stones aren’t just beautiful – they are also used to improve people’s lives from the ground up. At the heart of it all, the gemstone business is about the ties that bind; the relationship between miner and lapidarist, gem dealer and jeweller. #ICAMemberProfile #ICAMember #ICATrust #ICAEthics #ColoredGemstones #ColorTheWorld

  • Message from ICA CEO Doug Hucker: Celebrating Gemstones! Welcome to the second issue of InColor for 2024 (Volume 51). I hope you enjoy this magazine as much as I do. It's always a personal pleasure to know that, even after the many years I have been fortunate to be a member of this beautiful industry, I can pick up a magazine like InColor and learn so many things that are new and exciting. It reminds me of why I have been a part of this industry for so many years. Our purpose in this publication is not to be a rigidly scientific tome, but rather to provide a magazine that engenders and fuels the true passion we share for colored gemstones. Enjoy!
