About us
IDEOM strives for the establishment of patient-centric outcomes to enhance the research and treatment of dermatological conditions. Launched in 2013, IDEOM seeks to bring together physicians, researchers, government agencies, pharmaceutical companies, payers and patients from around the globe to develop and validate measures throughout the field of dermatology with an initial focus on psoriasis. The group's inaugural meeting in Boston established a need for consistent core measurements when evaluating clinical trials and therapeutic effectiveness. At the second meeting in Toronto, the group began discussing what elements are critical to be measured in psoriatic clinical trials and in clinical practice. The third meeting focused on what patients and European regulators were interested in seeing in measures. Check our website and page for updates on our continued advances and to learn more about how you can support our efforts or get involved.

Today is World Psoriasis Day. 🌍 IDEOM is passionate about providing outcomes for patients with psoriasis and psoriatic diseases. IDEOM President Dr. Alice Gottlieb chaired a patient & physician discussion at the PsOPsA Hub's Steering Committee Meeting earlier this year. This 2-part talk, which featured patients Jody Quinn and Hellen Wangui, explored patient and physician expectations – from diagnosis to the treatment of psoriatic disease. Dr. Gottlieb also discussed why diagnosis can be delayed and how this could be improved. IDEOM Workgroup Vitiligo Chairs Dr. David Rosmarin and Nanette Silverberg MD, MPHc initiated a groundbreaking project to develop an improved understanding of the best practice in recording outcomes in vitiligo. Their initiative, "A Review of the Vitiligo Literature to Standardize Expression of Disease Severity," reviewed the heterogenous set of publications and limited standardization in reporting in vitiligo cases. The conclusion of their research offers additional metrics, categories, and thresholds of success to improve clinical reporting. IDEOM Board Members Drs. Lourdes María Pérez Chada, Joseph F. Merola, M.D. MMSc, and Alice Gottlieb recently co-authored an original research study. The objective of this cross-sectional study sought to correlate the time lag between Psoriatic Arthritis onset and diagnosis to the likelihood and severity of depression, social impairment, and disease impact on the quality of life. This study concluded that delays in diagnosis of #PsA that are greater than six months lead to increased negative outcomes in patients' quality of life. October is National Eczema Awareness Month. IDEOM Psoriasis Workgroup Co-Chair April Armstrong, MD MPH recently led a study that highlights the criteria for an increased dose of Abrocitinib for Eczema patients. Myth: Psoriasis is just a skin disease Fact: Psoriasis is more than a skin condition. It is a chronic disease of the immune system that has systemic effects i.e. other organs are affected. About 30-50% of all people with psoriasis also develop psoriatic arthritis which causes pain, stiffness and swelling in and around the joints. There is increasing evidence suggesting links with serious health concerns such as heart disease, diabetes, liver disease, some cancers, depression and obesity. In partnership with our collaborating organisations, the Global Psoriasis Atlas will contribute to raising awareness of psoriasis in order to allow them access to the best care for the skin and other affected organs. #psoriasis #psoriasisresearch #psoriasisawareness
