Last month, Under Secretary Lago visited #China and #Mongolia to advance the economic interests of U.S. businesses, workers, and communities through meetings with senior officials and local businesswomen. Under Secretary Lago's primary purpose in visiting China was to co-lead the second Vice-Ministerial meeting of the U.S.-China Commercial Issues Working Group (CIWG) with China's Vice Minister of Commerce. One of the trip's highlights was the visit to the Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, an opportunity to reiterate the mutual importance of advancing healthcare, particularly cancer care for women. Under Secretary Lago's visit to Mongolia gave the opportunity to further strengthen relationships with senior officials across a variety of priority industries, including digital technology, mining, and transportation. In both countries, meetings with women business executives who are leading the way in women's business leadership allowed for discussions on opportunities for further progress and empowerment. International travel plays a critical role in the U.S. economy. In 2022, the industry supported 9.5 million U.S. jobs, generating $2.3 trillion in economic impact. Companies and organizations involved in the travel and tourism industry have the opportunity to help shape this important industry by joining the U.S. Travel and Tourism Advisory Board (TTAB). The TTAB advises the U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary on government policies and programs that affect the industry. The TTAB also serves as a forum for general discussion on potential opportunities and challenges impacting the industry. Don’t miss the opportunity to provide valuable counsel to the federal government as it works to implement the National Travel and Tourism Strategy, in coordination with the private sector! Happy Manufacturing Day 2024! Manufacturing is defined by ingenuity and plays a critical role in the U.S. economy. According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, manufacturing contributes $2.3 trillion to the U.S. GDP, employs 12 million people, and supports thousands of communities. It’s no wonder that manufacturing spans industries like aerospace, healthcare, and electronics and uses cutting-edge technology like artificial intelligence and 3D printing. Given its significance and range, it provides major opportunities for manufacturers to grow their businesses, support their communities, and drive the U.S. economy through exporting. The International Trade Administration is committed to supporting the manufacturing industry by providing export counseling services, working to strengthen supply chains and delivering data on manufacturing and trade.
