Here are five key strategies to elevate your professional image that the class came up with: 1. Master Strategic Communication 🎯: Tailor your message to your audience. Use concise, impactful language that resonates with executives. Focus on high-level insights and bottom-line impacts rather than getting lost in details. 2. But this approach **undermines** the true value of a BRM. Here’s why, particularly BRMs working for IT, should not be used as gap fillers: ### 1️⃣ **Strategic Partnership, Not Problem-Solving**: BRMs are **strategic partners** who align business objectives with IT capabilities, ensuring that both sides are moving in the same direction. When they are used to fix day-to-day problems, it distracts from their primary role—driving long-term value and fostering growth. ### 2️⃣ **Focused on Innovation, Not Firefighting**: A BRM’s true power lies in **fostering collaboration** and **driving innovation**.     A recent study by Fortinet reveals good news and bad news for #cybersecurity. Let's start with some of the good news: - 72% of respondents say their boards were more focused on cybersecurity in 2023 than the year before. - 83% of companies have set diversity hiring goals for the next few years to overcome the cybersecurity skills gap. - 89% of respondents would pay for an employee to obtain a cybersecurity certification. The not-to-good-news included: - 87% of respondents report having experienced one or more security breaches in 2023. - 53% of respondents say breaches cost them more than $1 million in lost revenue, fines, and other expenses. This is up from 48% in 2022 and 38% in 2021. - 51% of respondents say that directors or executives have faced fines, jail time, loss of position, or loss of employment following a cyberattack. While cybersecurity has become a high-priority-risk for most organizations, the sense of urgency is still trailing. Particularly in parts of the organization outside of the security team. If your #cybersecuritygovernance team is non-existent or is merely a taskforce than an executive leadership team executing oversight, setting strategy, and providing resources, you might have come across an area for improvement.
