These days, it seems like everyone is being labeled a ‘narcissist’—but are we overusing the term? Narcissism is a complex clinical diagnosis, not a catch-all for selfish behavior. In therapy, digging deeper and understanding the full story behind someone’s actions is essential. In this blog you'll learn about a story of a couple, the husband isn’t a ‘narcissist’—he’s a father, a husband, a community leader. But yes, he’s hurt his wife deeply. Labeling him without exploring the roots of his behavior isn’t going to foster healing or growth. Instead of rushing to judgment, let’s take time to understand the motivations behind actions and build better communication and boundaries. 💙 Click the link below to read more about how we can move beyond labels like ‘narcissist’ and create a real connection. https://lnkd.in/e8hstktY

A few weeks ago, our team gathered for a truly rejuvenating retreat in New York City, bringing together clinicians from across the country—New York, New Jersey, California, Florida, and North Carolina. We started with something a little different: puppy yoga 🐶🧘♀️. Practicing mindfulness amidst playful pups was both a challenge and a joy, helping us stay present and connected despite the adorable distractions. It was the perfect way to kick off a weekend of learning and growth. From there, we dove into training sessions led by experts like Michelle Mintz, LCSW, on supporting couples, and Laura McCloud on group work, which is key to fostering community. These sessions left us inspired, energized, and ready to bring even more innovation to our work. We also took time to fine-tune our intake process, ensuring we meet each client’s unique needs with compassion and care. But it wasn’t all work—we bonded over meals, shared stories, and strengthened our sense of togetherness. I’m incredibly grateful for the dedicated and passionate team we have at the Center for Intimacy Recovery. This retreat reminded me of the power of connection, and how, when we come together with purpose, we can provide the highest level of care to our clients. Here’s to many more retreats and a bright future ahead. Click below to read more about it on our blog! https://lnkd.in/ePtPUBfK
