Phages targeting Yersinia pestis (causative agent of plague or “black death”) provide strong protection against otherwise lethal infection in rats. Phage-based antimicrobials that target Y. pestis could have some very significant implications for managing Y. pestis infections, including those caused by antigenically distinct strains (against which currently available vaccines may not be optimally effective), and by those that cannot be killed by available antibiotics. https://lnkd.in/eBUyRCxk
