In the last two years, retailer Private Label (PLs) products have seen dramatic growth compared to national brand equivalents. The impact of several years of inflation is clear to see in national brand equivalents pricing trends. With summer upon us, we dissected pricing trends across the condiments category, analyzing 10 national retailers to understand which categories have the greatest Private Label penetration and how this has changed over the last 13 weeks. The results were eye-opening. On average, national brand equivalents were nearly 70% more expensive than Private Labels. Heinz, which dominates the Ketchup category, priced some products up to 137.5% higher than standard PL equivalents.
