    Our Denver team spent Iontra’s annual Volunteer Day working with Project C.U.R.E. Since 1987, Project C.U.R.E. has been donating medical supplies and equipment to hospitals and clinics in under-developed areas. Now, they offer numerous sustainable solutions to global health issues. Our team spent the day organizing and packing medical supplies, readying them for shipment. This 3-year project, in collaboration with Idaho National Laboratory and Freudenberg e-Power Systems, will support pre-commercial development of Iontra's state-sensing technology.     How to overcome the barriers to faster charging: While lithium-ion batteries have revolutionized portable energy storage, charging rates remain a bottleneck in several applications, negatively impacting consumer experience.     The recent #EV fire in South Korea is a clear reminder of the critical need for battery safety without compromising user experience in the electric vehicle industry. As calls grow for mandatory disclosure of battery information, it's clear that EV growth depends on cost effective and timely industry innovation in battery charging technology. At Iontra, we believe that battery safety is paramount. We all want faster charge speeds, but this often comes at a cost. The faster you charge your EV battery, the faster damage mechanisms, like dendrites, accumulate.     How hard can it possibly be to sell a used #EV? For David Tracy, selling his Nissan Leaf is proving nearly impossible.     If you’ve ever googled “why is my battery charging so slow?” you’ll likely come across the same set of answers: ⚡Check if your charging cable, or port is damaged ⚡Make sure you’re using the right charger ⚡Check or disable your device’s charging limit setting ⚡Clean your ports and cables ⚡Don’t use your device while it’s charging ⚡Skip the wireless charging ⚡If all else fails, replace the battery All of these fixes have to do with the device’s #hardware – which is important.     It’s unavoidable. Every battery eventually dies. The goal of the battery game is finding ways to give our batteries the longest, healthiest, and happiest lives we can, while maintaining or bettering their performance. Over the years, scientists, interest groups, and even private companies have struggled to find solutions that prevent internal battery damage and truly extend its cycle life. One of these solutions, bypass charging, is starting to pick up steam. Bypass charging allows a device to draw power directly from an outlet. This charging method is gaining popularity because of its low heat generation levels and extending battery life by, you guessed it, bypassing the battery altogether to power the device. This mode can be enabled, for example, when the battery is charged as overcharging is detrimental to battery health. The catch: you have to leave the device plugged in. Bypass charging settings can be found on some #Sony, #Asus, #Xiaomi and #Samsung devices (usually in their gaming modes to facilitate long gaming sessions without raising temperatures) but is not a ubiquitous feature in mobile device markets. Bypass charging is an interesting concept, but don’t mistake it for a one-size-fits-all solution. It is not the only mechanism for extending battery cycle life... because you’d be confusing it with what we offer at #Iontra. We develop charging algorithms that extend battery cycle life.
