Recap from tonight's #IPAGoesLocal Event in Spencer, IA! IPA's VP of Professional Affairs, Ryan M. and Executive Fellow, George Appleseth, PharmD, kicked off the day by visiting OneroRx's Community Pharmacy in Sac City, where we spoke with pharmacist Makayla Niehaus and her team about their incredible work advancing patient care. Next, we stopped at Thrifty White Pharmacy in Spencer to meet with Elizabeth Berberich, who shared how her team navigated the summer flooding, which caused a near-total shutdown of community services. They used creative solutions with the help of community resources to ensure patients received their medications. We also learned about their value-based services for managing acute and chronic conditions, vaccinations, and the success of their Technician Product Verification Program. Our journey continued with a visit to Spencer Hospital, where we met pharmacists Marisa Zweifel, PharmD, BCPS and Lacey Ferguson PharmD, BCPS to hear about the forward-thinking initiatives in inpatient and ambulatory care. The evening wrapped up with Dr. James Ray, PharmD, CPE, who presented on the importance of providing Whole-Person Care for People Living with Dementia. 2024 IPA Residents Meeting 💙 What a fantastic day with our state’s newest practitioners! Iowa pharmacy residents gathered to get to know each other and #pharmacy leaders across the state. Brandon Gerleman, PharmD, Senior Product Manager at Outcomes®, shared his career journey in a powerful session titled “Navigating a World of Change: It's the Only Constant”—reminding us how crucial adaptability is in today's rapidly changing healthcare environment. IPA members led a panel discussion, diving into topics like work-life balance, avoiding burnout, and best practices to thrive in #residency. After the meeting, P2 and P3 students from Drake University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences and the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy attended IPA’s Residency Showcase, providing the opportunity to connect with current residents and residency program directors from top programs across Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois. She also organized mobile vaccine clinics to deliver tetanus #vaccines to residents and first responders during the severe flooding in northern Iowa this year.
