In some cases, functionality was sustained for hours through a surprising discovery by researchers in China. The article gets into more detail, but the trick? Will be interesting to see how the courts see responsibility in this... #Delta Air Lines on Friday sued #cybersecurity firm #CrowdStrike in a Georgia state court after a global outage in July caused mass flight cancellations, disrupted travel plans of 1.3 million customers and cost the carrier more than $500 million. Delta's lawsuit filed in #FultonCounty #SuperiorCourt called the faulty #software update from CrowdStrike "#catastrophic" and said the firm "forced untested and faulty updates to its customers, causing more than 8.5 million #Microsoft #Windows-based computers around the world to crash." https://lnkd.in/gXqMZpP7

On Wednesday the #DOJ unsealed charges against brothers Ahmed and Alaa Omer, who allegedly launched a #punishing #bombardment of more than #35000distributed #denialofservice, or #DDoS, #attacks against #hundreds of #organizations, #takingdown websites and other #networked systems as part of both their own #ideologically motivated #hacktivism, as a means of #extortion, or on behalf of clients of a #cyberattack-#forhire service they ran for profit. According to US prosecutors and the #FBI, their #victims included #Microsoft's #Azure #cloud services, #OpenAI's #ChatGPT, #videogame and #media companies, #airports, and even the #Pentagon, the FBI, and the Department of Justice itself. https://lnkd.in/gSiAkyUN

Check this out - I'll wager it's coming to a town near you soon enough... A #schooldistrict in #Massachusetts was #sued by a #student's parents after the boy was #punished for using an #artificialintelligence #chatbot to complete an assignment. The lawsuit says the #HinghamHighSchool student handbook did not include a restriction on the use of #AI. Jennifer and her husband, Dale, filed the lawsuit in #PlymouthCounty #SuperiorCourt, and the case was then moved to #US #DistrictCourt for the District of Massachusetts. #Defendants include the #superintendent, #principal, a #teacher, the #historydepartment head, and the #Hingham School Committee. https://lnkd.in/gu82Y9CC
