Force of nature. That’s an apt way to think of Ingrid Reed. From her work in politics and policy she was at the forefront of countless initiatives. She helped educate so many, from Princeton University, to Rockefeller University, to then 15 years leading Eagleton Institute’s “New Jersey Project” at Rutgers. Ingrid was a planning maven. She was the first woman member of Mercer County’s Planning Board and then appointed the first Chair of the Capital City Redevelopment Corporation – a gavel she deftly wielded for 23 years in an effort to drive sensible and dynamic redevelopment of Trenton’s core. She has been a huge friend to Isles over the years, supporting our work, encouraging others to join in our efforts, and always a font of ideas and encouragement. We are saddened by her recent passing, but take solace that even at 88, she kept pushing Isles (and others organizations she supported) to think creatively, expansively, and dynamically. We would expect nothing less from a force of nature! We’re so grateful for all her help and support, we will miss her greatly, and join so many in conveying our condolences to her family. https://lnkd.in/dbGv3Ei9

Isles’ Elyse Pivnick presents at Lead Free New Jersey’s first annual conference along with Health Committee co-chair, Sheila Caldwell. They discussed new ideas for increasing NJ childhood lead screening rates while working together with NJ Department of Health, NJ Chapter of American Academy of Pediatrics, and private insurers to boost efforts to get more children tested. LabCorp data shows that 16,000 recommended NJ child lead tests went unfulfilled in just the last six months of 2023. Comprehensive lead testing is critical to ensuring that children receive early intervention services as needed and that homes get cleaned up before more children are impacted by lead. We know childhood lead exposure causes behavioral issues, educational decline, and countless negative health impacts. Isles is a state leader in advocacy and action to protect children from lead hazards. Go to isles.org to learn more.
