In October, we #thinkpink, and for a good reason—one out of every eight women will be diagnosed with #breastcancer in their lifetime, and each year, 2 million women are given this frightening diagnosis. 🎗️ #Biotechnology startup MicroQuin used the microgravity environment of space in an effort to learn how breast and prostate cancer cells develop and grow but "found something incredible that could lead to a way to treat not just breast and prostate cancers but all cancers." Details are in the latest issue of Upward, the official magazine of the ISS National Lab: https://ow.ly/T5L450TUVX2

Discover the only National Laboratory located in low Earth orbit -- advancing science in space for life on Earth.
About us
In 2005, Congress designated the U.S. portion of the ISS as the nation’s newest national laboratory to maximize its use for improving quality of life on Earth, promoting collaboration among diverse users, and advancing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. This unique laboratory environment is now available for use by non-NASA U.S. government agencies, academic institutions, and the private sector, providing these customers access to a permanent microgravity setting, a powerful vantage point in low Earth orbit, and the extreme and varied environments of space. The ISS National Lab is managed by the Center for the Advancement for Science in Space, under agreement with NASA.

Growing stem cells? In space? In off-the-shelf, affordable lab hardware? In 3D? We did all that…and more! 🚀🧫 Thrilled to publish our new paper, “Surface tension enables induced pluripotent stem cell culture in commercially available hardware during spaceflight” in Nature NPJ Microgravity! Read for free here: https://lnkd.in/gHeTScgi As with all our space biosciences studies, this was a hugely collaborative effort. Thanks to Clive Svendsen Maedeh Mozneb, Ph.D. Madelyn Arzt and the Cedars-Sinai team, Pinar Mesci, PhD, MSc Jana Stoudemire and Axiom Space, BioServe Space Technologies, NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, SpaceX, Allen Institute, International Space Station National Laboratory, and Leidos.
