Iowa State alum Nels Matson, CPA (’06) is attempting to break the world record for the fastest known timed run across the United States. The ISU Alumni Association member and former Iowa State Wrestling letterwinner passed through Ames this morning, nearly two-thirds of the way into his 3,067 mile, 42 day, 12 state trek. “Being back in Iowa gives me great memories of growing up around really wonderful people,” Matson says. “Coming into Ames we got a really nice reception. The generosity and the kindness of the people of Iowa is really amazing.” On this journey, Matson is honoring fallen Navy SEAL Chris Campbell who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2011. “We’re doing this run to continue to say his name and remember his legacy," Matson says. "What was important to Chris was, if he didn’t make it home, that his brothers and sisters who did were helped. He put a note into his will that he wanted donations to go to the Wounded Warrior Project We are trying to raise $100 per mile.” You can learn more about Project Campbell's Call and track Nels along the way at t4n1.org #CyclonesEverywhere

The Iowa State University community mourns the passing of Roy Reiman on Sept. 16. Roy founded Reiman Publications in 1965 and throughout his career was known for publications like Taste of Home, Our Iowa and Our Wisconsin. Roy graduated from Iowa State in 1957 with a degree in agricultural journalism. Through the years, Roy’s passion for Iowa State University was demonstrated through his time spent engaging with students, through his extraordinary storytelling, and in the generosity he and his wife Bobbi demonstrated time and again in helping the university create visionary landmarks like Reiman Gardens, the alumni center, and the completion of the Jack Trice Stadium endzone. https://lnkd.in/g6sMcsQt
