About us

Ivanhoe Industries operates two independent FSSC 22000 - GFSI Certified specialty chemical manufacturing facilities. The two facilities have similar capabilities and provide redundant manufacturing assets for nearly all the products we offer. Together the facilities provide over 100,000 square feet of manufacturing and warehousing space. We have the ability to blend antifoam formulations in both small and large capacity with a number of types of milling equipment to produce emulsions or to finely disperse solid particles in various types of carriers. We operate numerous hot oil and steam reactors with varying auxiliaries and sizes that give us a wide range of capabilities and flexibility to manufacture both pilot scale and large scale non-ionic surfactants and hydrophobic silica. Ivanhoe has two packaging lines for our hydrophobic silica that can produce both small kraft bags as well as large bulk bags of product. Our capabilities are complete with state-of-the-art analytical, R&D, and application labs. Our analytical lab ensures that all our products comply with our quality and foods safety standards and supports many of our R&D efforts. The R&D lab has all the capabilities of our full scale product plants to facilitate the development of new products from lab to pilot to production scale. The applications lab assists in new product development and often allows our customers to outsource their foam control R&D to Ivanhoe to reduce the burden of qualifying new defoamer products.

Since we manufacture our silicone defoaming compounds, #HydrophobicSilica, and surfactants, we are able to innovate beyond what is readily available in the market and better able to control cost and our supply chain. We utilize this advantage to work closely with our customers to custom develop #FoamControl and surfactants for specific application needs and to address specific production problems.     #FoamControl Solutions for Food We manufacture foam control agents for all types of food and #FoodProcessing applications and offer a range of chemistries to allow #FoodProcessors to comply with specific regulations, desired marketing claims, or downstream processing requirements. We offer a standard product line, but can also customize #defoamer formulations to suit specific processing conditions. Our full R&D and applications laboratory can test defoamer formulations using either the actual customer-supplied foaming media or a simulated media, and our applications chemists are available for onsite testing using portable defoaming test kits. Our investment in these methods helps our customers choose the optimum defoamer formulation for reducing defoamer spent and/or increasing production throughput. We have the capability in our R&D lab to manufacture small quantities of esters for sampling purposes and we have a 15 gallon pilot scale reactor with all of the capabilities of our commercial reactors which is often used to scale up a new ester or to provide larger quantities for field trials.     #Emulsifiers for #PersonalCareProducts We utilize hot oil esterification reactors to manufacture non-ionic #surfactants for #PersonalCareFormulations. Our product offering can also be sold as #FoodAdditives and is manufactured under the strict quality provisions of our food safety program. Many products are 100% derived from natural plant sources, are non-toxic and serve multiple functions in personal care formulations. #PolyglycerolEsters (PGE’s) are made by the polymerization of glycerin and then esterification with a fatty acid. The glycerin polymer chain length and the degree of esterification determines the physical properties of the ester. PGE’s are made from all natural and renewable raw material sources that have not been genetically modified. PGE’s can replace ethoxylated nonionic surfactants and are multifunctional additives that have emollient properties. #GlycerolEsters are derived from vegetable sources and function as co-emulsifiers that work in conjunction with higher HLB emulsifiers to form stable emulsions. These esters also act as lubricants and can help solubilize other additives into a wide range of formulations. #SorbitanEsters are low HLB surfactants derived from vegetable sources. Sorbitan esters function as co-emulsifiers and work particularly well with polysorbates to form stable emulsions with increased viscosity. #Polysorbates are high HLB surfactants made via the ethoxylation of sorbitan esters. The HLBs of these surfactants also range from water dispersible to water soluble and have superior stability across all types of formulations, including both acidic and caustic systems. #PEGesters are made via the esterification of polyethylene glycols with fatty acids and serve multiple functions in personal care formulations. Their HLBs range from water dispersible to water soluble and are stable in high electrolyte systems with a pH that is near neutral. The I-SIL #HydrophobicSilicas are certified as #Kosher and #Halal and can be used in #NonGMO food applications.     We operate hot oil esterification reactors that allow us to manufacture #emulsifiers that are approved for use as direct food additives and have function as dispersants, stabilizers, or solubilizers for other #FoodAdditive formulations. Many of our emulsifiers are made with Non-GMO ingredients and some carry the Project Non-GMO certification. We also manufacture emulsifiers using RSPO Mass Balance certified palm oil based components and have Non-Palm options available. Our technical sales team will provide assistance with selecting the correct emulsifier for your #FoodProcessing application. #PolyglycerolEsters Polyglycerol esters of fatty acids (PGEs) are polymers of glycerin and fatty acids derived from vegetable sources. PGEs can be made with a wide range of HLBs and are popular choices to replace emulsifiers made from synthetic materials such as polysorbates. Our PGEs are approved for use as an emulsifier for food per 21 CFR 172.854 and are Non-GMO compliant. #MonoandDiglycerideGlycerolEsters Mono- and Diglycerides (MDGs) are oil soluble surfactants made via the esterification of glycerin and fatty acids. MDGs have a wide range of approved uses in food per 21 CFR 184.1505 which include emulsifiers, lubricants, release agents, flavoring adjuvants, formulations aids, and others. We offer Non-GMO and Non-Palm varieties. #PhosphatedMonoandDiglycerides Phosphated Mono and Diglycerides (PMDGs) are derivatives of MDGs, have properties similar to lecithin, and are Non-GMO and allergen free. PMDGs have lower viscosity than lecithin and better thermal properties. PMDGs are approved for use as an emulsifier, lubricant and release agents per 21 CFR 184.1521. #SorbitanEsters Sorbitan esters are oil soluble surfactants made by the esterification of sorbitol and fatty acids. They are often combined with water soluble surfactants, like polysorbates, to make stable emulsions. Each sorbitan ester has specific FDA clearances and use restrictions, but is approved as an emulsifier in a wide range of foods. #Polysorbates Polysorbates are water soluble surfactants that are made by reacting sorbitan esters with ethylene oxide. Each polysorbate has specific FDA clearances and use restrictions, but are approved for a wide range of applications such as emulsifiers, solubilizing and dispersing agent, defoaming agent, and flavoring adjuvant.
