We break barriers for women and nonbinary journalists because without their voices, there is no full story.

We are devastated to learn that Ukrainian journalist Victoria Roshchyna, a 2022 Courage in Journalism Award recipient, has died while imprisoned in Russia. As details emerge surrounding the circumstances of her death, our thoughts are with Victoria’s family, colleagues, and loved ones during this immensely difficult time. Journalism is never a crime; we will continue to fight for justice for Victoria and urge international attention on Russia's suppression of press freedom. https://lnkd.in/edZC8SRj

Today in New York City, the IWMF hosted its 35th annual Courage in Journalism Awards luncheon at Cipriani 42nd Street, honoring extraordinary women journalists who brave immense risk in pursuit of the truth. A huge thank you to our host, Linsey Davis, for guiding the event, and to Bank of America for their 18 years of support! We celebrated the achievements of Lauren Chooljian from New Hampshire Public Radio and Mónica Villacís Velásquez of La Posta, alongside shin daewe, recipient of the Wallis Annenberg Justice for Women Journalists Award. As we marked this milestone anniversary, we were also joined by an incredible group of 35 women news media leaders, and brought together three former Courage awardees — Lydia Cacho, Marites Vitug and Anna Nemtsova — in conversation with ABC’s Deborah Roberts. Special thank you to Suzanne Malveaux for her generous matching donation offer — don’t miss your chance to double your impact! Join us to invest in these remarkable voices and their global impact at the link in our bio.

We’re excited to wrap up our final News Safety Across America (NSAA) training! Between February and October, the IWMF conducted 29 safety workshops in 21 cities across 13 states, reaching an incredible 627 journalists. Participants included reporters, photojournalists, and editors from more than 200 media outlets, including metro daily newspapers, local radio and TV stations, and regional nonprofit newsrooms. This initiative wouldn’t have been possible without the support of 23 partner organizations, including newsrooms, journalism schools, and local collaboratives. Together, we’re strengthening journalist safety across the nation! Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to this vital effort. Stay tuned for more takeaways from this initiative coming soon! #NSAA #JournalistSafety
