The J.D. McCarty Center for children with developmental disabilities specializes in the care and treatment of children with developmental disabilities from birth to age 21. The McCarty Center provides medical care and physical, occupational, speech and language therapy for children on an inpatient and outpatient basis.

Honoring a longtime director 🎉🥳 We're thrilled to announce the new Saundra Myers-Johnson Psychological Assessment Clinic that honors a longtime director and creates opportunities for more families to have access to psychological assessments for their children. Saundra Myers-Johnson, who served as the center's director of psychological services, spent nearly 40 years working with, supporting, guiding and advocating for children with developmental disabilities. The clinic bearing her name offers comprehensive psychological and developmental assessments for children from birth to age 21. The assessments can help families in determining if a child meets criteria for diagnoses such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Developmental Disorders and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Building excitement 🛠 We hosted a kickoff ceremony earlier this summer for our new Outpatient ABA Clinic, now under construction on the center's campus. The building will feature 14,000 square feet of space, which will allow room to serve 30 outpatients in ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) therapy. The new building also will have space for outreach programs, such as parent support groups and training. “We’re really excited about what we’re going to be able to do moving forward,” said Liz Moore, director of the ABA program. "We want to be the place that families come to when they need services for kids with autism." Surprise visit 🤩 It was a star-studded day at the center when actor and musician John Schneider — known for his roles in TV's The Dukes of Hazzard” and “Smallville" — stopped by to visit one of our patients, who is a huge fan. A marvelous March We had a fun-filled month celebrating Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. We had games for our patients and employees and enjoyed treats donated by Starbucks, Dunkin' and La Baguette in Norman. Socks of support 🧦 Employees from our rehab department showed off their sensational socks in honor of World Down Syndrome Day. People across the world show their support for the day by wearing silly, fun, striped or mismatched socks. Why socks? Socks help promote the celebration of differences. Another reason for the sock celebration is that striped socks look like chromosomes and Down syndrome is the third replication of the 21st chromosome. #worlddownsyndromeday #jdmcteam
