Jackson Public Schools is the second-largest school district in Mississippi, serving nearly 19,000 students, representing more than 80 percent of school-aged children in the state's capital and only urban municipality. Jackson, Mississippi has about 170,000 residents in an area of 104 square miles. There are 7 high schools, 10 middle schools, 31 elementary schools, and 4 special program schools comprising the district's 52 school sites. These schools are divided into 7 feeder patterns based on the high school receiving the area's students.

Congratulations Dr. Greene!! 🎉 The Council of the Great City Schools has announced Jackson Public School Superintendent, Dr. Errick L. Greene, as one of five finalists for the prestigious Green-Garner Award, recognized as the nation’s highest honor in urban education. Dr. Greene, who has served as superintendent since 2018, expressed his excitement: “I'm truly honored to be recognized for the work that we're doing here in Jackson. This continues to be the most rewarding experience of my career, and I'm so pleased to be serving alongside such talented and committed educators and on behalf of such amazing scholars.” Each candidate was evaluated on their efforts to improve student achievement, narrow achievement gaps, demonstrate governance skills, and increase public confidence in their respective school districts.
