About us
Jobs for America’s Graduates-Kansas (JAG-K) is a 501(c)3 organization that prepares students for successful futures. Our goal is to help students facing various barriers to success, overcome those barriers, graduate from high school and get on a successful career path. JAG-K is an in-school, elective class that is taught by a JAG-K Career Specialist. A trained JAG Career Specialist provides individual and group instruction to 35-45 students in the classroom using the competency-based JAG National Curriculum. The Career Specialist teaches JAG-K students employability skills, career and leadership development skills and helps with academic remediation. Additionally, JAG-K students complete at least 10 hours of community service each year. JAG-K Career Specialists invest time, compassion, understanding and love into the program and their students. The JAG-K Career Specialists maintain contact with students throughout the summer months and, most notably, continue to work with students past high school. The unique 12-month follow-up program allows the Specialist to continue providing support and encouragement to the student for the first year after graduation. Our Career Specialists develop community relationships to help provide internships, job shadowing opportunities, guest speakers, college and business visits and other career and leadership development opportunities. We have three statewide JAG-K events each year and one national event in Washington, D.C. for qualifying JAG-K students. There are numerous local events open to every student and a Career Association in which all students will participate. The JAG-K classroom is set as a Career Association with opportunities for leadership, community service, career exploration, and on-site job shadow experiences. JAG-K is a state affiliate of the national organization, Jobs for America's Graduates. Founded in 2013, JAG-K has served over 10,000 Kansas students.

JAG-K had a fantastic time attending the two day Kansas Manufacturing Summit in Wichita! It was a great opportunity for Joni, our Director of Employer Engagement, and Dawn, from our Strategic Advancement Team, to connect with industry leaders and learn more about the vital role manufacturing plays in Kansas’ economy and the Kansas workforce for our students. We are excited to apply the insights gained to further support the success of our amazing students. A big thank you to the Kansas Chamber of Commerce and the Kansas Manufacturing Council for organizing such an impactful event! * An additional perk for being in Wichita was mikeroweWORKS (!!!) was in town for a filming event with WSU Tech plus a meet and greet appearance! Joni and Dawn knew that Mr. Rowe needed to know about JAG-K’s students and mission …so they waited in a (very) long line to shake hands with him! Joni got big fives when he learned about our students! Dawn says “Stay tuned!”

Our Russell JAG-K program has partnered with Russell area businesses and with Ogallala Commons, a multi-state non-profit education and leadership organization to provide students with paid internship work experiences in the student's choice of career fields during the summer of 2024. This video highlights a few of the business partners and their insight into the experience and celebrating the student successes!
